Essential Oils & Hydrosols for Dog Skin Health
|
A lot of dogs have skin issues, which is not a surprise since after all the skin is the largest organ. It has direct contact with the "outside" and is subject to cuts, scratches, bruises, as well as pathogen invasion.
I have found that using essential oils and/or hydrosols topically can help treat a lot of minor dog skin problems. (Hydrosols are milder and safe for use even on puppies and cats.)
The key is, of course, choosing the right oils and those that are safe for use on dogs.
If you are interested in using essential oils and hydrosols to help treat some minor skin problems on your dog, be sure to take a look at this article.

Neem oil is pressed from the seed kernels of the neem tree.
While it is not an essential oil, it is a great oil to use topically to help support a dog's skin health.
Neem oil has strong anti-inflammatory properties. As such, it is excellent for dry skin and can soothe skin irritations and itching.
Neem is also anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-viral, so it can be used to help treat dog skin infections, scabies, ringworm, acne, and ulcerations.
In addition, neem oil can repel bugs such as fleas and mosquitoes.
Be sure to visit this page to find out more how you can harness the power of neem oil to help support your dog's skin.

Easy Peasy Skin-Soothing Spray
|
If your dog has some minor skin irritations (e.g. acne, rashes), try this skin-soothing spray.
You Need:
- 1 oz (30ml) Lavender hydrosol
- 1 oz (30ml) German Chamomile hydrosol
Directions:
- Blend the hydrosols in a 2 oz (60ml) glass spray bottle.
- Spray the affected skin areas 2-3 times a day.
If the skin problem is on your dog's face, you may want o use this blend as a compress instead as most dogs don't want to be sprayed on their faces!
You can also use this spray as a diaper spray if you have a baby.
