Aloha! It has been a interesting year with many ups and downs, but mostly ups! We had a great show and travel season with our nearest and dearest, were able to spend the holidays with family, and kept very busy in the studio.
Steve is so pleased to announce this finished commission that not only posed many challenges as an artist, but opened his mind to new and interesting projects. He collaborated with the clients idea, excited to take on the difficult task of not only creating and integrating with nature, but scrambling his mind with an engineering nightmare! The stones came from several places around the globe and island. He integrated marble, lava rock, river rock, and onyx. Part
of his creative process involves the "hunt" for the right stone. "This project posed so many variables, it kept me up at night. I usually am working with one or two pieces of wood or stone, not several at once, carving each one to fit. Creating the arch was an engineering feat I never knew I could master. The journey was more than challenging and forever rewarding. Will I do this again? No. Well, maybe in my own sculpture garden. This is a one of a kind experience and sculpture. As an
artist, or for anyone, it's important to push oneself beyond what you think you can do. In the end, you learn something that will take you to the next level, whatever that may be." "I picked each stone individually and carved each one to compliment one another. Some I left natural and others I had fun tweaking and pushing them to a new look. It was definitely a collaboration with nature creating an entrance to a beautiful meditative garden trail." The Arch measures 8 ft wide
and 9 ft tall.
