Hello ,
Shrek is no ordinary sheep. I have a picture of him on
my home computer, and I must confess that in the picture he looks like a bale of wool...with legs. The stock photo here on the right doesn't come close to depicting what he looked like. He was found in a cave in 1994 in New Zealand after roaming around the countryside for more than six years. When his whereabouts were discovered he had grown so much wool that he was hardly able to move, and the abundant fleece had to be pinned back from his eyes just so he could see. He was
distressed and visibly upset when found.
The merino sheep was finally given some relief by top shearers David Fagan and Peter Casserley on live television, where they removed about 60 pounds of wool (enough to make 20 large men's suits.) For Shrek the sheep, it was shear peace!1
I found some amazing similarities between this poor burdened sheep and some people who continue to carry around
the layers of sin and guilt that they have accumulated while roaming through life. Often these layers become so burdensome that they cannot move forward emotionally, physically, or spiritually.
Good Advice
God has a better plan. Check out the words of Jesus found in the gospel of Matthew.
"I won't lay anything heavy or
ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly" (Matthew 11:30).
When we come to Jesus with our burdens, we are assured that they will be lifted from us, and when we continue to spend time with our Redeemer we can have the peace that only He can bring to a life. If we are spiritual sheep, and Jesus can take away the burdens of guilt and sin, perhaps we could call our Savior the Greatest
"Sheep" Shearer that ever was. When we allow those layers of burden to be removed, we too will experience sheer peace.
Have a great day and God bless!
