Hello ,
"Bling-bling" is a hip hop slang term which refers to
expensive jewelry and other accoutrements, and also to an entire lifestyle built around excess spending and ostentation. Hollywood writer/producer Kevin G. Boyd has really caught on to the materialistic mentality of his market. His new product exemplifies the often absurd behavior that some people display when they need attention and recognition from others. Enter "Bling H20" bottled water!
It comes in a limited edition, frosted, corked, 750
ml bottle (the size and shape of wine bottles), hand decorated with Swarovski crystals.2 At a hefty $38.00 a bottle, this is definitely not "guzzling" water!
I'm no psychologist, but it seems to me that anyone who feels the need to project such an image by paying $38 for a bottle of H2O may suffer from feelings of low self-worth. If only they understood that there was One who was building something far more buzz-worthy than
anything that man has ever dreamed or conceived of.
Heaven's bling
In Revelation 22, we can see a well-described picture of God's city, and it makes man's poor attempt at wealth and head-turning "bling" look pretty shabby indeed.
"...and the city was pure gold, translucent as glass. The foundations of the city walls were garnished with
every precious gem imaginable..."
(Revelation 21:18-19).
The verses go on to describe the
various precious gems embedded into those foundations, and they tell of streets made of pure gold. In fact, the Bible tells me that I can't even begin to understand just how awesome it all really is (1 Corinthians 2:9).
These descriptions of wealth are amazing to me, but even more incredible is the thought that the God who created all of these things chose to leave a place like this and come in the form of a human being to save me for eternity.
My eternal life was more important than any material wealth that existed. Knowing this brings my priorities into complete focus and causes me to want to serve the King instead of the "bling!"
Have a great day and God bless!
