Hello ,
"For He rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins"
(Colossians 1:13-14).
Singer John Denver had a string of hits in the 1970's that
ran the gamut of human emotion, but one that struck a particularly responsive chord in the hearts of many was a song entitled, "I'm Sorry."
"I'm sorry for all the lies I told you
I'm sorry for the things I didn't say"
The haunting, pain-filled lyrics of this number touched those who listened because they knew exactly
how the writer felt; sad, repentant, and sorrowful.
I recently stumbled across a web site that reportedly receives thousands of hits every day. The topic there does not involve the latest trends, celebrity sightings, or recent world news and events, and yet it has proven to be one that is in high demand.
What could be such a hot topic that it would cause people to want to return again and again? The repentant human heart's need to seek forgiveness! The desperate desire to say "I'm sorry" keeps the cyber doors "swinging" at this ever-popular haven, and the site is filled with resources on attaining this seemingly illusive state of wholeness.
The Desire to Be Forgiven
A message board at the site displays sorrowful apologies from ex-lovers and former best friends about the hurt that they have caused those that they care about most; a digital "purging" if you will, of a heartfelt brokenness that longs to be forgiven by those who have been wounded by careless words and thoughtless actions.
But God has a message of redemption for those who suffer most.
"Where is the god who can compare with you - wiping the slate clean of guilt, turning a blind eye, a deaf ear, to the past sins of your purged and precious people?" (Micah 7:18, Message/Remix).
This is just one of the verses in the scriptures describing God's intense desire to see us emotionally healed and forgiven from our past. Yes, it's important to say "I'm sorry" to those that we have hurt, but only
God can bring about the peace that we so desperately seek. It's an "inside job" that only God can do.
Have a great day and God bless!
