This new miniature sculpture was created with this very thought in mind, have a heart. It's definition is up to the individual. That is what art is about; it inspires you, it fills your heart. This sweet piece was inspired by the Hau tree that grows near the beaches of Maui. The heart shaped leaves seemed the perfect fit for a little one. "I couldn't resist adding the mini heart for the baby to snuggle up to. They fit like a puzzle, like life." This again is a celebration of life and it's challenges. Do you like Koa wood?

Steve has been busy creating these gorgeous sculptures from his private stash of curly Koa. We are looking towards season and as you know Steve always creates a special body of work for that time of year. He now has 2 very captivating works available. You will find each piece with it's own graceful curves, presence and personality. Please contact the gallery for inquisitions.

Curly Koa grows only in 20% of the forest. Since the wood is endangered on Maui, it only grows on the island of Hawaii. Koa that is found here is usually fallen and a rarity to acquire. Steve was given the honor with a fellow wood worker to recover some pieces in the back yard of an old estate. As you will find, the reds and fire in the grain are second to none. The "curly" part of the grain is created in the wood from it reaching towards the sun in the most dense part of the forest.
