Best Buds
The world has changed a lot! As a whole, we have been home more and this has meant more time with our pets. How wonderful for social Maine Coons!
Folks who began working from home got to finally find out what their pets get up to during the day! And, if you are like me, you found out that juggling the attention of fur-children can be just as distracting (maybe even more so) as human children! But we wouldn't have it any other way.
The characteristics of Maine Coon cats make them well suited to most home and work arrangements. But they do best when they can enjoy being the splendid companions that they are!
My Coonies were both lap cats, but petite Alice was the one who could fit on my lap at a desk. It worked out great! She kept me toasty during the winter work-days, and kept me in place too! I am sure that your Maine Coon is your best buddy as well.
The Fall Photo Album is coming along great! I'm enjoying posting a daily Featured Fall Coonie to the site, to FaceBook and Instagram. We need more submissions! If you haven't sent a photo or story yet (or lately) please join the Fall Album here!
Our Featured Coonie for this Flashback Friday is Gizmo!
Melissa in Baldwin, WI writes:
"Gizmo is 3 years old, he weighs in at 27 pounds!!!! He loves to play fetch, loves water, and to BEG for whatever he wants, he is VERY talkative. We live in an apt, to my surprise no one hear knew what a Maine Coon was, everyone knows now! lol, Gizmo loves to go visit through out the building, he knows just what door and who to go visit to get treats! He loves visitors and will try to
answer door!
The pic I posted is of my neighbor holding Gizmo. He also loves car rides, and I bought him a stroller which I harness him in, (he wears a large size dog harness!)
He is known all over Baldwin as the cat in the stroller. :)"

Tips From Our Friends:
In response to our homemade cat toys section, Leigh writes:
"Hi. I want to pass along a warning about cats and string. When a cat or kitten ingests string the string cannot always be passed. If it becomes tangled and lodged in the intestinal tract it can cause real problems, including surgery. I never let my cats play with string or any type of thread."
Thanks, Leigh! That is a very important reminder. At the least, we should supervise play and never leave string unattended.
Thanks for sharing,
Carrie
Questions From Our Friends:
Ducky asks:
"Do Maine Coons always look bloated? I have a Maine Coon and I am also worried about him cause he is always bloated. I have cut back his feeding to just feeding him at night but he still looks bloated. Is that normal for being a Maine Coon?"
Hi Ducky, well that's a subjective topic - what might look bloated to one person will look perfectly normal to another. I would not recommend feeding any animal only once a day. I can imagine how hungry I'd be if I only ate once a day - and I'd think it would be just as difficult and uncomfortable for a cat!
Definitely let your vet be the one to decide whether your Coonie needs to lose weight or if he's at a healthy weight. Maybe he just looks round due to his shape and fur, and now he's hungry. Or maybe there is a medical problem.Good luck to you both! ~Carrie
On our FaceBook page, Adriana asks for a recommendation:
"Hi, any advice on where to get a Maine Coon kitten? I don‘t care about papers or anything, I just want a healthy kitten .
Thank you."
