How Long is Ten Seconds?
Ten seconds doesn’t seem like much time if you are trying to solve the final question on Jeopardy. Time seems to fly by as the clock runs and the pressure to answer builds.
But ten seconds is an absolute eternity when it comes to putting your pickleball serve in play.
We see so many players complaining because they believe the referee is rushing calling the score. WHO
CARES? Once that score is called, you are now in complete control of what happens next.
We see so many players rush to get their serve in play as soon as they hear the referee call the score. And what happens when we rush? Yep, service faults. Unforced service errors. Simply
absolute gifts for our opponents.
Remember, once the referee has fully announced the score, you have a full 10 seconds to check and make sure the receiver is ready and to put your serve in play. RELAX. Now is the time to take a deep breath and get yourself ready to win this
point.
We don’t always take the full 10 seconds to serve, but we always have an internal clock in our heads......one thousand one, one thousand two, one thousand three and so on.
Try it yourself. Stand on the baseline with the
ball in your hand and count to 10. It will seem like forever.
Use that valuable time to plan, to relax and take a deep breath if you need to, and most importantly to help get that all-important serve in the box.
So don't rush and don't miss.
What is the very best serve??? A serve that's in 100% of the time!
Take your time and get it in play.
Your partner will be very glad you
did.
