Lessons Learned from Doug Lane, PMP
"... I first read A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide) to ensure I was fairly familiar with the process groups and 47 project management processes. I spent two to three hours a day reading the book for about one month.

I then used the PM PrepCast to study each of the processes further. I spent about 90 hours over the next two and half weeks going through the lessons, highlighting material in the PMBOK® Guide and writing my own notes. I found the PM PrepCast a very useful study tool to learn and study by..."

Why Get a Personal Project Management Professional (PMP)® Exam Coach?
Your coach works with you (either one-on-one or in a group) to assess your needs, determine where you lack knowledge and recommend a study plan for you. In this way you know exactly where you stand and what the best (and usually fastest) way is for you to study and pass the PMP exam.
By attending the regular coaching sessions -- usually once every week -- you have the chance to review your progress and discuss issues with the coach.

Also, our coaches are "tough" and point out any slack if you don't hold up your end of the bargain -- just like any good coach or tutor should!

Image
Jumpstart your Project Management Professional (PMP)® Exam preparations with the PMP® Exam Prep Essentials Study Guide.

Make sure that you have covered the key PMP® concepts. The Essentials Guide contains the most important terms, definitions, methods, and formulas for your PMP Exam preparation all in one place. It covers the essential concepts, and includes all Inputs, Tools, Techniques and Outputs (ITTOs) for every project management knowledge area. And it's less than 60 pages long! That's only about 10% of the full A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge, (PMBOK® Guide).

The information is logically organized for easy look-up and reference throughout your studies. That means you can use the Essentials Guide at all stages of your PMP prep: Use it at the beginning to kick-start your studies before you even open the PMBOK® Guide. Use it as a check list during your studies to ensure that you have reviewed all the essential concepts. And use it at the end to review and refresh crucial concepts in the days just before your PMP Exam.

So don’t get overwhelmed by the PMBOK® Guide! Instead simplify your PMP exam prep.

Student Profile: Thomas Okedi, PMP
"...To prepare for the PMP® Certification, the A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide) MUST be read and understood, there’s unfortunately no short cut to success in the Exam. It is an authoritative Manual for Project Management and an attempt to dodge reading it, is suicidal.  I also found that reading through Rita Mulcahy’s PMP Exam Prep, 8th Ed helped me to understand in a simpler way some of the concepts in the PMBOK® Guide. You can’t however just jump to reading Rita without reading the PMBOK® Guide, you will be referred back to the latter."

Seeking correction in my study in prep for the Exam - not confident with progress

Let's help our forum member,  Steven McClaugherty answer some of his questions. Here is a snippet:

"...I am hoping to sit as planned for taking the PMP Examination next month on 2/22, unless I push the exam date out. I do not feel very confident at this time with my progress and study at the moment. With having a little over a month left to utilize in preparation, I need to seek advice on how I should utilize the remainder of my time wisely. It has been several years since I have tried to learn vast amounts of information at once (maybe nothing of this amount), and almost seems like I have forgotten how to study, with memory recall not as sharp. I am trying to remain positive and optimistic of being prepared by not getting down on myself, but struggling at the moment unless I can see more hope with this..."
