What is the Best Way to Study for Your
Project Management Professional (PMP)® Exam?
Stephen R. Covey, in his best-selling book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, famously stated: “Start with the end in mind.” Applying this concept to studying for and passing the Project Management Professional (PMP)® certification exam means understanding what material is covered on the exam, how the PMP® exam is structured to test your comprehension and knowledge, and developing and following a study plan. Starting with the end in mind allows you to treat your study plan like a project, maximize your time and resources, and increases your ability to get your PMP certification.

In this article I am going to show you how to create your very own study plan. Step by step. We begin with a general overview and then quickly move on to nearly a dozen best practices that we have identified. You will know exactly what to do!

Student Testimonial: Enrique Caputo, PMP
"...I started preparing the PMP Exam with one year timeline. Mi first step was to get the membership of the Project Management Institute (PMI)®, download A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide) and read it three times in three months. Then I got a training with a Registered Education Provider in order to organize my understanding of the PMBOK® Guide. Two months before the examination, I used the PM Exam Simulator taking a full 4-hour test twice a week, all the week-ends. In the meantime taking quick tests per Knowledge Area. The last 3 days: just practice, practice and practice with the simulator. It gave me the practice needed to pass the exam."

Exam Discussion: "Go or No Go?"
Let's help forum member, Steven McClaugherty with his question:

"I decided to open this as a new thread to ensure visibility among other Moderators/certified project managers as I have to make an important decision with PMP examination testing. I welcome multiple points of view & input, as I need to make Go/No-Go call in the next few days.

I have proceeded on taking Exam 5 to serve as a baseline indication of whether to go forward with PMP Exam Testing on 2/22. My result was a 81% and was one of my first attempt passes so far from out of the exams taken. The only other pass I had was on a Second Attempt at 81% for Exam 1..."
