Short Guide to The PMBOK Guide

The Complete Guide to Process Groups and Processes
By the time you’ve got through the first page of A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide) you’ll have come across the terms Knowledge Areas and Process Groups. (They are always capitalized because they are really important.) Add to that a ‘normal’ process and you’ve got three very different things that form the backbone of the book.

But here’s the thing. They overlap, interact and depend on each other. It’s so easy to get confused between PMBOK® Guide Knowledge Area and a Process Group, and then don’t get me started on those 47 processes that are supposed to fit in somewhere. It’s essential to get your head around how everything slots together when you are preparing for the PMP exam.

Student Profile: Mark J. Brindle, PMP
"...Don't break away from your normal study habits that you have developed from the start of this study endeavor. I would not cram information in the last week, it simply makes things tougher (I found that out when I failed on my first attempt at the PMP exam).

However, one thing that I found was really helpful, is to write down a list of things that you know you are weak on. By the time you get to the last week before the exam, you will know these things..."

Questions regarding information from PMBOK® Guide
Let's help Nicholas answer his question and give him some tips:

"In section 11.4.2.2 there is a section "Modelling and Simulation" which has a figure 11.17, using data from Figure 11.13. I understand the concept of how this works, what I don't get is how they arrive at 12%, the formula for the "y" value on cumulative curve with the mode (most likely result) being known is, (c-a)/b-a), which in this case equals 0.27 .

Please can someone help clarify this for me?"

Lessons Learned from Tracy Shagnea, PMP
Lessons learned towards becoming a PMP shared to us by PM PrepCast student Tracy Shagnea, PMP.

"I'm going to summarize my approach. I did it a bit differently than many appear to do, though the fundamentals are similar. I'll tell you what I ended up doing rather than giving you the experiences along the way that led to how I finally executed (otherwise, this post will be so long that no one will be able to read it).
