Creating Your PMP® Study Plan - The Complete Guide |
|
Stephen R. Covey, in his best-selling book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, famously stated: “Start with the end in mind.” Applying this concept to studying for and passing the Project Management Professional (PMP)® certification exam means understanding what material is covered on the exam, how the PMP® exam is structured to test your comprehension and knowledge, and developing and following a study plan. Starting with the end in mind allows you
to treat your study plan like a project, maximize your time and resources, and increases your ability to get your PMP certification.
In this article I am going to show you how to create your very own study plan. Step by step. We begin with a general overview and then quickly move on to nearly a dozen best practices that we have identified. You will know exactly what to do!

Let's help our forum member answer this question: "I am now reaching 70% on the test. I have two weeks left before I take the test. I feel like I've read the RiTA book 3 times. I will continue taking the exams. My weakness is the ITTO. I read them over and over form the PMBOK 6th ed. but they are so much and I can't possibly get them all right on the test. Assuming that my score doesn't improve to the 80%, Will I
pass?"

"...In the last week before the exam, I created a spreadsheet that tracked each area by filter placing my quiz scores in the sheet. The last couple of weeks I reviewed my weak areas and went back for another study on the given topic. Once my score got up to about 85%, I moved on to other topics that needed my attention. Seeing my progress and seeing the areas narrow down on my gaps was exciting and gave me confidence. I sat with a math tutor friend
the last week of my study for a review as that was one of my weak areas. In the end, I scored highest on the areas where I had challenges in the past. The reason I feel is because of the spreadsheet that I used to track my results and then place my focus. Though I went through the ITTOs but I didn't let myself get stuck on how many there were of them and try to memorize them. I just got familiar as to where there were patterns or words that stood out to me. That worked well!."
