Volume 6 - Issue 48

Happy 6th Birthday
Picture to Ponder

"Where has the time gone?"

Six years ago today, 12/9/04, Picture to Ponder was launched as an "almost daily" ezine. See Issue 1 (You can follow links at the bottom of that page to see subsequent issues.)

In considering how to celebrate I decided to search for photos of my grandson Ryan, whose face always shows exuberance when he's celebrating. Flip the number 9 candle and we have our 6. Interestingly this 9th birthday picture was taken 6 years (and a few months) ago.

I will celebrate by reading some of your testimonials, knowing that my mission (see below) has been accomplished.

Hi ,

Until I typed in the date of today's issue, I had not even realized that it was a special day. In going back to Issue 1, I found the follow regarding my intentions:

"Know that there will be something in every photo used that caught my eye and had me "capture" it. It may have been in the color, the patterns, the texture, the mood. Sometimes a hidden image surfaces for me, at the time the photo is taken. Very often it becomes noticeable only after it's printed or on the screen.

I invite you to explore each photo for the meaning it might or might not have for you. Some suggested tools for *being* with the photos and furthering other activities, if you desire, can be found in my article, ACCIDENTAL ART.
"

Six years later, though the format has changed a few times, the bottom line of "paying attention" to what we see has been consistent.

In my commitment to that happening for you in an even greater way, expanding your own experience of seeing and trusting that, the Through and From The Lens (TFTL) photo course** is being offered once again in January with both day and evening sessions. I've been reviewing the bonus MP3s and getting more and more excited about what's possible. Please check Photo Course for details.

**The explanation for the course title can be found in a recent blog post "Through and From The Lens transforms Seeing".

Now on to
Today's Featured Photo -

Today was rather cold for Florida, as well as being gray and damp, resulting in my feeling quite chilled. It occurred to me that a large percentage of you are experiencing weather that's a lot harsher, so I went through photos looking for "warmth". The above photo was the one that immediately popped out at me.

It's not a great photo in terms of lighting... background washed out and may be lacking compositionally.. and it does exude warmth. Both these elements - lighting and composition - and much more, will be covered in the upcoming experiential TFTL course.

Self-Reflecting Queries -
Today, I simply invite you to look at the kinds of things, occasions, people in your life who and that you celebrate. Is acknowledgment part of how you celebrate? Acknowledging yourself? Others?

Does celebration come easily to you?

And, in relation to my looking for a bright and cheery photo to "warm" me up or shift my mood, do you have practices in place for enlivening yourself when you feel the need?

Lastly, referencing back to observing a mission that's been an underlying thread in my life for six years, and probably far longer than that, I invite you to reflect on your life to observe and note the threads that empower you.

And, as always remember to have fun with the queries and share on the blog what comes up for you.

Returning in January -
