This past weekend I had the pleasure of spending Mother's Day with my younger son, Rob, his wife, Kevra, and grandson, Ryan. In addition to it being a relaxing, loving weekend, it was also one in which I had the pure delight of making new discoveries.
First my eye "noticed."
Then I "paid attention", using my iPhone camera to document my experience to savor and share with you. An added bonus for me was that Ryan got excited also with what I was seeing. He was able to do his own photos with Android.
Today's Photos -
My usual morning practice consists of drinking lemon water while I write my "Morning Pages" (Julia Cameron). On Saturday I followed through with the latter sitting out on the balcony of the resort where we were staying. After finishing one of the glasses of water, I happened to look out through the glass and got excited with the reflections and distortions as seen through the glass. The imagery in the top photo is what I first noticed.
After moving the glass around for a bit I decided to see what I could capture, holding the iPhone against the rim of the glass with the camera lens in the center. I took dozens of pictures and some videos. I will be posting one or two videos showing the different distortions and realities, the possibilities when positioning the glass in different ways.
In the meantime I have uploaded a video I took, showing me with no make-up, wrinkles and all. Because the message, as well as my excitement and enthusiasm, comes across, I decided to put vanity aside. You can see it at SHEILA on Video
The following day, I played with taking photos through a plastic bottle. In the middle photo, there is still some water in the bottle. The bottom shows the water drops on the side, inside the bottle.
And the very top, above "Today's Photos", is a photograph of me, as I'm sure you guessed. I held the glass against my face with the camera positioned at the bottom of the glass.
Self-Reflecting Queries -
Today's photos and my experiences highlight, in a different way, the recurring theme in Picture to Ponder on how we see things and what happens when we shift perspectives.
How often in life do we "distort" reality to fit, perhaps, preconceived images or beliefs that we have? When we do, we may recognize what we are doing and yet it seems to be a struggle and a burden to make any kind of shift. Very often it's fear of the unknown.
The distortions and reflections in today's photos show that there can be fun and play in being open and making shifts. I will be posting one or more videos showing some of the different view points that came out of shifting the glass, or the "lens" so-to-speak. They also are a demonstration of the lightness and fun that can be brought into play when changing our perspectives.
I invite you to look into your life right now. Is there any place where you are feeling stuck? where something may feel "heavy"? If so, I invite you to bring some "play" to it. Is there a way you can be seeing it, in fun? If so, what has shifted for you?
And, if all feels great, light and easy, is there still a place where you might bring a playfulness, discovery and exploration
and find some new expansion?
