Hi
Cutie Gerry Turner and his 22 gorgeous over-60 groupies are burning up the Internet and TV sets all over the world.
Millions of women--and men even--can hardly wait for 8 p.m. Eastern time every Thursday on ABC as 72-year-old Gerry (pronounced Gary) whittles down the group of admirers to the one who, he hopes, will be the love of his life. He's a well-dressed, successful entrepreneur and widower from Indiana who wears hearing aids and makes women everywhere swoon.
This is the perfect time for Publicity Hounds to pitch story ideas related to the show. Or write an article for your blog, create videos for your YouTube channel, pitch to your local TV stations, and be at the forefront of a fun conversation that will continue long after the last episode airs in mid-November. The show is so popular that I’m betting ABC will turn The Golden Bachelor into a series and even create a spinoff
called The Golden Bachelorette.
Here are publicity ideas for pitching:
--On Facebook, groups devoted to The Golden Bachelor are posting photos of their watch parties. If you’re having one, let
your local ABC stations know. Foodies, party planners and others can share recipes and fun details for the perfect GB watch party.
--A major topic of conversation among GB fans is relocating “at that age.” Many women over 60 who have worked hard for their families and careers, and have a comfortable retirement, are reluctant to move in with a man or get married.
Therapists, marriage counselors, and dating and life coaches, what issues should over-60 men and women consider before moving in together? Marrying?
--What makes this series so appealing is the civility and maturity of the women, compared to the back-biting and name-calling—sobbing even—among the women in their 20s and 30s who
are featured on The Bachelor. What can these younger women learn from the GB show about dating, love, how to dress tastefully and, for heaven's sake, manners? What can they learn about growing old?
--If marriage is in the cards, how important is a pre-nup for a couple in their 60s and 70s? Attorneys and financial advisors,
weigh in. Accountants and CPAs, what are the tax implications?
--Many women have commented on how well-groomed Gerry is. What can men learn from him if they're considering the dating sites?
--Gerry has four daughters, all of whom are enthusiastic about their dad finding love again. But what if the kids are bitter toward a parent’s new mate? Then what?
--What’s different about love after 60? This is perfect for romance authors and even
those who write non-fiction.
--Is the show unhealthy or creepy? Some women think so.
Important Notes:
--Because this show is on ABC, you’ll have better luck pitching your local ABC station.
--If you haven’t seen the show, you can watch the first two episodes at the ABC website (no sign-in needed) at
https://abc.com/
Have fun with this one, and let me know if you get a publicity hit.
Your friend,
Joan
P. S. Yes, yes, yes, I’ll be tuning in
tonight.
