Hi
You can't escape it.
A TV commercial says choosing a bank can be a complicated journey.
On Facebook, you'll find a meme or comment daily from someone using the word journey to describe their search for the cheapest school supplies for their kids or their months-long medical treatment after a serious diagnosis.
Every author, it seems, discusses the complicated journey of writing a book. Or the exhausting journey of marketing it. Or the frustrating journey of tracking flat sales.
Coaches love the word journey. Business owners do too, particularly those in the spirituality/alternative health/yoga area.
The cliche journey shows up in press releases, media interviews, websites and articles. You hear it on the morning TV talk shows, the late night yack fests, and on podcasts and YouTube videos.
Enough. Please.
The next time you're tempted to use it, consider the context of your message and these alternatives:

...that's a partial list. You can probably think of more. Thanks for reading.
Your friend,
Joan
