QBOTMC News - Indiana Puzzle Block, Quilting Tips and Choc Donut Spiders

Published: Tue, 10/30/18

I hope you've had another good week this week.  Here, it's been another one with ups and
downs.  Ups, because I'm getting things made and finished, and I'm enjoying doing that,
but OMG - the downs.... once again, technology and I are not the best of friends right now!

I subscribe to the "if it aint broke, don't fix it" kind of reasoning, but it seems that most of
the web-software-developery people don't, and some random 'upgrade' has left me unable
to access my emails.  I found a round-about way to still get them, but there's no easy 'fix',
and I now have to figure out the best way to fix this permanently.  New computer, or
upgrade the old one and keep everything crossed that I don't lose my files and emails....
I just really dislike having to make these kinds of decisions.  Poor me, I know, but I'm still
plowing on and we'll get it sorted one way or the other.

This week's block is a really pretty one that I find myself using every so often in different
projects.

We found a few more great tips on machine quilting that we wanted to share this week too:

These are Hints for Consistent Stitches -

•  Mark the quilting design on the fabric clearly. If you can see the marks, you are less likely
to hesitate while stitching them.

•  When you begin a machine-quilting session, warm up on a practice sandwich. Determine
what your rhythm is for the day before you start to stitch on your quilt.

•  When marking a machine-quilting design on your fabric, draw the lines in the same
sequence and direction that you will be free-motion quilting. Then you will know the
stitching sequence before you start quilting.

•  When your stitching is going well and you want to stitch faster, be sure that you also move
the quilt faster to keep the stitches a consistent length.

With Halloween here right now, I found this fun quick recipe you might like to put together.

Choc Donut Spiders

Ingredients

    290g/10oz pkt Dark Choc Melts
    1 tbs of vegetable oil
    12 Cinnamon Donuts
    24 small White Choc Bits
    dark chocolate writing icing
    24 baked pretzel twists

Method

Step 1

Melt Dark Choc Melts following packet directions. Stir in 1 tbs of vegetable oil.

Step 2

Dip 1 side of each donut, 1 at a time, in the mixture. Place on a lined tray.

Step 3

Use white Choc Bits and dark chocolate writing icing to make eyes. Stick on a white choc bit
and make a dark icing dot on that. Break pretzel twists into pieces and insert into donuts to
make legs. Set aside to set.

My kids are going to love these!!

Until Next Week - Happy Quilting!
