About Featured Book: The Hunt for the Peggy C by John Winn Miller

This gripping novel full of action and suspense, a semifinalist in the Clive Cussler Adventure Writers Competition, introduces Captain Jake Rogers, a hardened smuggler transporting contraband through the U-boat-infested waters of the North Atlantic in the beginning phases of World War II. Rumored to have fled America because of a murder before beginning his career at sea, Rogers takes on cargo few other captains would be willing to carry—if the price is right.

But after witnessing the oppression of Jews in Amsterdam, Rogers agrees to take on the most dangerous cargo he has ever transported: a Jewish family fleeing Nazi persecution. Pursued by Oberleutnant Viktor Brauer, a brutal U-boat captain who will stop at nothing to send Rogers and his crew to the bottom of the ocean, the normally aloof Rogers finds himself drawn in by the family’s warmth and faith, and increasingly willing to do whatever it takes to get them to safety.

A thrilling, beautifully written story of adventure and compassion in the time of an unforgiving European world war, “The Hunt for The Peggy C” not only creates a fascinating, believable, and visual world of its own but keeps readers on the edge of their seats from page one through the shocking, unpredictable end.

They Called Me Margaret by Florence Osmund

They Called Me Margaret by Florence Osmund

Margaret Manning has spent the better part of her life conforming to the expectations of other people—first her father, then her husband. Breaking away from this ruinous tradition, she becomes a cozy mystery writer and decides to open her own bookstore—The Indie Book Nook. But when her husband mimics the behaviors of some of the more unscrupulous characters in her books, she fears that she is losing him, or even worse that she is losing her mind.

While abandonment is nothing new to Margaret—she hasn’t seen or heard from her mother since she was six years old—the fear of losing her husband is devastating. She struggles to find the strength to mend her shattered marriage while also coping with obscure health issues, her daughter’s precarious behavior, a disingenuous neighbor, and an unpredictable mother-in-law.

Who in Margaret’s life is friend and who is foe is not always apparent, and it’s up to her to figure it all out.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I love to create stories about difficult situations in peoples' lives–relatable situations that require critical decision-making and have multiple outcomes given the choices made. I want readers to question the main character's decisions and ponder what they would do in a similar situation.

How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
The protagonist in "They Called Me Margaret" was relatively easy to conceptualize and develop since she is a novelist like me. She wants to be her own person for once in her life, and I wanted roadblocks for her, so what better way than to have a sketchy husband and disingenuous neighbor. And who doesn't like to read about someone else's quirky mother-in-law?
