November Client Letter: The Fed is Number 1 in Wealth Destruction This month I had lunch with retired BB&T Chairman and CEO, John Allison. Speaking with John was a special privilege given his unique background in the financial industry. John was the longest-serving CEO of a top-25 financial institution, serving BB&T from 1989 through 2008. John said he used to believe the Federal Reserve was second only to Congress in destroying wealth and well-being. Now he believes the Fed has moved into first place. The Reliance Hydroller makes gathering and carting water much easier. The Reliance Hydroller is a self-contained cart system that carries 8 gallons of water (or other liquids). It comes with a wide-mouth cap for easy filling, and a hideaway spout for easy pouring. An air vent system keeps the water running smoothly. No Obama Mandate

Two co-pilots steering us toward the fiscal cliff.  Their respective jobs are beyond them.

In the above, the Washington Post’s Richard Cohen is referring to President Obama and Speaker Boehner.

I have written that the most destructive presidents since the founding of the Fed (thank you, President Wilson) are Wilson, FDR, Truman, Johnson, Carter and Obama. President Obama has the thinnest resume of any president in my lifetime. His qualifications don’t fill the back of a matchbook. I ask people to explain to me what about Obama’s background would lead them to vote for such a person as president and have yet to hear one answer that makes even the slightest sense.

Mr. Cohen writes about President Obama feeling like he has a mandate. But as Cohen notes, “Some 15 Republicans won in congressional districts that Obama carried.” Some mandate. The Republicans control the House and are likely to pick up a number of additional seats in the mid-term elections, now less than two years away. Moreover, limited government Republicans have already rebelled against Speaker Boehner and his budget bail out. Boehner is playing a weak hand that should weaken further. All of which should serve to handcuff President Obama, making his grand income-redistribution scheme tough sledding, if not impossible.

A Constitutional Look at The Second Amendment

“There is no legitimate exception to the Second Amendment for military-style weapons, because military-style weapons are precisely what the Second Amendment guarantees our right to keep and bear. The purpose of the Second Amendment is to secure our ability to oppose enemies foreign and domestic, a guarantee against disorder and tyranny.”

Kevin D, Williamson, writing at National Review, is right on the money here. Mr. Williamson continues, “Consider the words of Supreme Court Justice Joseph Story—who was, it bears noting, appointed to the Supreme Court by the guy who wrote the Constitution.” Story wrote, “The right of citizens to keep and bear arms has justly been considered, as the palladium of the liberties of the republic; since it offers a strong moral check against the usurpation and arbitrary power of the rulers; and will generally, even if these are successful in the first instance, enable the people to resist and triumph over them.”

Kevin Williamson follows up with a frightening look at the organized-crime activities of the Department of Homeland Security. Mr. Williamson concludes, “Power corrupts. Madison knew that, and the founders did, which is why we have a Second Amendment”
