How Can You Prevent The Obama Government from Spying on You and Your Family and Business Associates? Part I

You can do what I did for starters and dump Google as your favored search engine. A U.S. government mass Internet surveillance program code-named “PRISM “ has been used to tap directly into the servers of nine U.S. service providers. Included are Facebook, Microsoft, Google, Apple, Yahoo, AOL, and Skype. I long ago killed my Facebook page, and I advise you to be done also. I use none of the service providers listed. I have switched over to Netherlands-based Ixquick, a move I’ve advised in the past for you. I think now you can see why. Much, much more coming up in this government spying series.

Warm regards,

Dick

The Coming Revolution

North Colorado could be the 51st state. Residents of 8 counties have had it with politicians in Denver. As Mark Trumbull reports in The Christian Science Monitor:

The move would require not just a secession vote showing the counties’ desire to depart. It would also require votes of approval by Colorado’s Legislature and by the US Congress, according to Article 4 of the US Constitution.

“No new State shall be formed or erected within the Jurisdiction of any other State; nor any State be formed by the Junction of two or more States, or Parts of States, without the Consent of the Legislatures of the States concerned as well as of the Congress,” the Constitution says.

According to the National Constitution Center, an organization based in Philadelphia, this process “has been used successfully to create five states: Vermont (from New York, in 1791); Kentucky (from Virginia, in 1792); Tennessee (from North Carolina, in 1796); Maine (from Massachusetts, in 1820); and West Virginia (from Virginia, in 1863).”

So it can be done. And in Colorado, the idea is on the table.

How to Investigate the IRS

At the center of the effort to expose the IRS’s heavy handed tactics and possible unlawful behavior is campaign finance and political tax law expert Cleta Mitchell. The Wall Street Journal’s James Freeman details Ms. Mitchell’s efforts to hold the IRS accountable.

The woman who helped expose IRS abuse of conservative activists has more news to share: The abuse continues, and she sees no evidence that the White House, the IRS or the Justice Department is doing anything to end it. “This is not in the past tense. This is still going on,” says Cleta Mitchell, perhaps the country’s pre-eminent expert on campaign-finance and political tax law.

In 2012, Ms. Mitchell worked to persuade members of Congress that reports of IRS harassment of conservative groups were credible. GOP lawmakers demanded information from the IRS and triggered the internal audit that finally forced the agency last month to acknowledge abuses it had previously denied. Now Ms. Mitchell is determined to end the abuse and identify the culprits.

A Welcome Mat for Murderers

“Gun Free” zones are a welcome mat for murderers looking to do you in. The mass shooting at Santa Monica College in California is yet another example. Robby Soave explains at The Daily Caller how strict no-gun rules were ineffective in stopping that tragedy.

In the wake of the mass shooting that culminated at Santa Monica College in California, administrators defended the college’s strict no guns policy, despite criticism from those who say that so-called “gun free zones” don’t prevent crime.

On Friday, 23-year-old John Zawahri shot and killed his father and brother. He then forced a woman to drive him to the campus of Santa Monica College, where he killed three more people. Police eventually arrived on the scene and killed Zawahri during an exchange of gunfire.

Both college policy and California law forbid anyone other than law enforcement officials from bringing guns on campus. A college spokesman says the school is determined to maintain its ban on firearms, while the school’s president argues that the rampage was not technically a school shooting.

VIDEO: How the NSA Spies on Americans

From Cato.org “A leaked (and secret) court order and other documents reveal that the National Security Agency has been collecting phone records on millions of Americans for months at a time, spying on e-mail communications with the knowledge of large Internet providers and collecting a vast catalog of Americans’ credit card transactions. Jim Harper, director of information policy studies at the Cato Institute, discusses the revelations.”

South Carolina Becomes the 17th State…

The Truth About Project Labor Agreements reports:

Great news out of South Carolina.

Yesterday, South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley signed S.438 into law, which will prohibit government entities in the state from requiring contractors to sign a project labor agreement (PLA) or other agreements with labor unions as a condition of performing work on public construction projects.

South Carolina is the 17th state to take action to protect taxpayers and the vast majority of the construction industry workforce from wasteful and discriminatory PLA mandates, and the 13th state to enact reform since President Obama issued Executive Order 13502 in February 2009, which encourages federal agencies to require PLAs on federal construction projects costing more than $25 million and allows state and local governments to require PLAs on federally assisted projects.

“This new law will ensure that public construction contracts will be awarded to firms that provide taxpayers the best construction at the best price,” said ABC Carolinas Chapter President & CEO Doug Carlson. “There is no question that construction labor union bosses in other states are using these types of mandates to steer public construction projects to contractors who are willing to accept their onerous demands and this new law will protect South Carolina taxpayers from this kind of abuse.”

A PLA is a special interest scheme that discourages competition from qualified contractors and their workers by requiring a construction contract to be awarded only to contractors and subcontractors that agree to recognize unions as the representatives of their employees on that job; use the union hall to obtain workers; obey the union’s restrictive apprenticeship and work rules; and contribute to union pension plans and other funds in which their nonunion employees will never benefit unless they join a union.

When a government entity requires a PLA on a construction project, they are essentially tilting the playing field in favor of contractors that agree to use organized labor. On government-funded or assisted projects in South Carolina, this means that the 99 percent of the state’s private construction workforce that chooses not to join a labor union cannot compete on an equal basis for projects funded by their own tax dollars.

PLA and other union-only mandates have been found to increase construction costs by an average of 12-18 percent—and much more in some cases.

Additionally, this law saves taxpayers from the cycle of corruption that frequently leads public officials to agree to require PLA mandates.  When a state adopts one of these laws, everyone, except construction union bosses, wins.

Obamacare Demands Shocking 88% Insurance Rate Hikes in Ohio

The Ohio Department of Insurance has announced that average rate hikes for individual plans will be 88% under new Obamacare mandates.

Based on a report released by the Society of Actuaries earlier this year, the Department estimates this increase is an average of 88 percent.  While those costs do not specifically track with the premiums insurers charge individual customers, it is expected that these increases in costs will also translate to significant premium increases for many Ohioans.
A total of 14 companies filed proposed rates for 214 different plans to the Department.  Projected costs from the companies for providing coverage for the required essential health benefits ranged from $282.51 to $577.40 for individual health insurance plans.
“We have warned of these increases since a state-specific study in 2011 indicated Ohio would be significantly impacted by the ACA,” Lieutenant Governor Mary Taylor said.  “The Department’s initial analysis of the proposed rates show consumers will have fewer choices and pay much higher premiums for their health insurance starting in 2014.”
