What's New With AConcordCarpenter?

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holiday weeks.  Personally I enjoy all of the major holidays and the time leading up to them.  I especially enjoy that most of the stores close up and people set aside time to slow down and spend time together.

I want to take a minute and express my gratitude and appreciation to my subscribers, PR friends, Cable TV producers and fellow website editors.

It is my hope and wish that everyone of you has a very happy and healthy Thanksgiving!

Building A Handicap Ramp For Thanksgiving Guests

This past week a very good customer of mine asked if we could build her a ramp for her elderly parents who are in wheelchairs.

Building and fixing stuff has always been fun for me but when you add the symbolism of what this ramp will accomplish this Thursday a- it becomes even more important.

We were more than happy to oblige.   This temporary ramp was designed to be dropped in place, and then removed and stored in an adjacent barn for the next visit.

We made the joists out of 2x12 stock and the ramp is 1/2 cdx plywood to keep the weight down.  Non-stick adhesive tape was applied to assist the person pushing the wheelchair.

WIN A Porter-Cable Drill

With the malls already playing holiday music it's time to start thinking about that cool and innovative gift for hard to shop for your handy-man or handy-woman.

The folks at PORTER-CABLE are offering one of my Newsletter subscribers a chance to win their 18 Volt Lithium Ion Drill/Driver (PCL180CDK-2)

The PORTER-CABLE  PCL180CDK-2 was designed to offer  contractors, re-modelers, carpenters, woodworkers and sophisticated hobbyists new improvements in performance, ergonomics, versatility and durability.

The PCL180CDK-2 18 Volt Lithium Ion Drill/Driver was recently redesigned and offers a new motor and low impedance batteries that deliver 424 inch-pounds of max torque, a 30 percent improvement over the old model. The additional torque also provides 25 percent higher speed with 1,500 RPM in high gear.

2011 Build Boston Event

This past week I attended the Build Boston event.  I was surprised at how big the event was.

There were alot of great vendors and products there that I will be writing about in the next few weeks.

Here's a sneak peek at four of them:

Tablet Tape is a tape measure with a writable surface on it.  Write measurements or anything you need to remember on it.  To erase simply wipe it clean.

This product even works underwater - I hope I don't need that  anytime soon.

Tablet Tape also has a self sticking product that you can adhere to your tape measure and write on with your pencil.

I like the idea of being able to use it on my tape measure of choice.

This adjustable pipe flashing boot is adjustable from a 0 to 12 pitch and is made of premium materials to withstand extreme environments such as coastal roofs.

Sonopan is a wall or ceiling sound proofing system.  The manufacturer had a sound booth with a stereo blasting inside it - WOW I was amazed at how well it worked!

What I liked best was how simple it was to install.

t's basically a proprietary sound board and then an aluminum channel that attached to the studs.  You finish the wall off with 5/8" drywall and your done!

hmmmmm I wish I had done a few rooms in my house with this.

Mirage Screen Systems make some cool innovative screening options for hard to screen areas like Terrace and french doors.  The one I liked the most installs on the jamb of the door opening and slides left or right across the opening.

You'll see more of this soon!
