What's New At AConcordCarpenter

Fun in the sun!

Last week I spent 6 days in Punta Cana, Dominicain Republic with my family.

The Dominican Republic shares an island with Haiti.  Both by area and population, the Dominican Republic is the second largest Caribbean nation, with 48,442 square kilometres (18,704 sq mi) and an estimated 10 million people.

The people I met were super friendly and interesting to speak with.

We stayed in Punta Cana which is famous for it's pristine beaches - Did you know that Punta Cana is also listed as 79 in the top 100 places to visit before you die.

Below is a photo taken by me at sunrise over the ocean.
~ Beautiful!

When I returned home from vacation my attention has been on outfitting my new tool trailer.  This trailer a 2012 Cargo Mate which is replacing my 11 year old trailer.

If you follow my site you know that I am always looking for easier, more efficient ways to perform my carpentry functions.

So I have decided to redesign my tool storage system to accommodate my aging back and to promote a more efficient work flow and tool set up and break down.

This means keeping the larger tools like the table saw, router table and miter saw near the doors and at hip height for easier lifting.

I hope to have it completed by the next newsletter.

DEWALT 20 Volt Brush-less Impact Driver

Who wants a brand new impact driver?

DEWALT just released three new 1/4-inch Brushless Impact Drivers.  This is a first-ever for DEWALT.

At 3.6 pounds this new driver looks very similar to a 20 Volt older sibling but DEWALT took things a step further with some added features.

In the next week or two I will be giving one of these impact drivers away to a newsletter subscriber - stay tuned!

Watch my 1:30 minute video interview with Jeremy Torok, product manager with DEWALT.  Jeremy explains the features behind these brush-less tools

Mr Heater HERO cordless forced air propane heater.

This weekend I did a video review on the Mr Heater HERO cordless forced air propane heater.

I've been using this heater for a bit and am impressed on how well it works.  It's not a huge jobsite heater but it's perfect for the smaller jobs and outdoor activities.

It costs approximately $150+/- and has a built in battery that charges in 5.5 hours and allows it to run cordless for 8 hours on a single charge.  The HERO can run for 12 hours continuous on a 20 pound propane tank.

The HERO provides 35,000 BTUs and can easily heat an
800 square foot area.  I will post an in depth review on  AConcordCarpenter.com  in a week or two.

Rocklers I-Semble Brackets

Rockler just released these shelf brackets and I was excited to get my hands on them.

My daughter has been on my case to buy, make or magically produce a computer desk for her bedroom.  The problem is that the space we want to put the desk in is odd shaped which meant I would need to buy something custom, or make it.

Custom means lots of money so that was out of the question.

The I-Semble brackets do one thing and one thing only - they solve problems.

Watch my short video review on how I used the I-Semble brackets to solve my problem!

Solving A Problem!

Saturday while working at a customers house I was asked if I would dispose of an old concrete well pipe and cover.

At first I thought I would drill a bunch of holes with a masonry bit and then smash the hell out of this pipe with with a sledge hammer in the hope of breaking it to pieces.

Then a second thought came to mind, what if I rolled this huge, heavy pipe into a dumpster bag and have it removed whole?

So I called my local trash company, GreenBagPickUp.com, and they confirmed that my idea would work and that they were willing to do it.

GreenBagPickUp took the pipe whole and they saved me money and hours and hours of my time!!!

See picture below.
