What's Going On At Concord Carpenter
This week we are on the final stages of repairing the structural issues on the pole barn. Once complete we will replace all of the 2x4 sheathing and install cedar trim boards we removed to access the posts.
Next week I'm flying to Venice, Italy to attend Irwins product launch media event.
Ten publishers were invited, nine print and me. What an honor!
Irwin is planning a release of a new line of saw blades that is expecting to be a "game changer" for the woodworker.
Why Venice?
That is was my first thought too. Apparently Irwin owns or has a relationship with a saw manufacturing plant in Venice. I've always know that italian masonry blades were considered among the best - why not wood blades!
Part of this trip involves a Venetian architecture tour of Murano, Torcello and Burano. One side trip that I am looking forward to is to visit and see how a Venetian gondola is made at the gondola workshop of Squero San Trovaso.

Remodeling Anxiety
One of the most commonly overlooked causes of a clients Remodeling Anxiety is the fact that as remodelers, we are constantly invading and disrupting our clients lives.
Workers strolling in and out of the house day after day can cramp a clients lifestyle, even if they've been pre-warned.
Dust, muddy boot tracks, messy bathrooms, loud radios and sketchy looking tradespeople are just a few of the sure ways that this disruption can foster clients anxiety.
Hidden Conditions
I don't know too many people that are happy when a carpenter tells them their project is going to be more money or take longer due to unforeseen or hidden conditions.
I'll refer to this as "what's behind the walls?"
Why Photograph the Jobsite?
One of the biggest reasons to take pictures during construction is to have a record of hidden conditions.
Prior to enclosing your framing, electrical and mechanical with insulation and drywall, thoroughly document where everything is. The same goes for pictures prior to pouring foundations. When you need to locate a stud, a wire or a pipe later it will save you and with digital cameras you really can't have too many images.

Unlike building a new home, remodeling usually means working in someones house.
Homeowners often find the remodeling process annoying and a serious cramp to their lifestyle.
