Freeze Proof Outdoor Faucet Goof!![]() One a recent repair we needed to remove a rotted exterior skirt trim board on a house. This skirt board had a water spigot installed through the center of it.
We carefully cut away the rotted board and installed a new pvc trim board. In order to get the board around the faucet we drilled a hole and then cut the board with a saw and then glued the seam around the facuet - worked like a charm.
The problem came later when installing the two faucet mounting screws into the faucet flange. My guy used a 2.5" screw and installed the screws at an angle. [photo above]
We found the problem later when the hose was turned on and water was leaking into the basement. Because the facuet is a freeze proof type the screw hole only leaked when the faucet was turned on.
Had we not noticed this - this may have been a costly mistake.
Here's a tip to prevent this from happening1. Take off the handle next time so the screw goes in straight.
2. Don't use a short screw bit extension because the drill body hits the faucet handle whch makes you angle the screw to install it.
3. Use a smaller screw to anchored the faucet.
