What's new at Concord Carpenter?

Hi Folks,

As I write this newsletter I'm listening to all of the forcasts for Hurricane Sandy. In Massachusetts we are forcasted for some storm surges and possibly sustained high winds.
My concern is for the folks in the direct path of this massive 900 mile storm.
I only hope people took precautions and battened down the hatches and boarded up their windows.

If you live on the coast, are in the direct path of the hurricane you can improve the odds of your house surviving high wind damage by taking precautions.

Here's a post on how to protect your home from a hurricane

Sump Pumps

This is also a good time to check that your sump pump is operating.

Many times a homeowner will install their own pump and miss a few key install points. Often the failure of a sump pump can be traced to very simple installation mistakes.

JELD-WEN Recalls to Repair Interior Bifold Doors Due to Impact Hazard

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, announced a voluntary recall of the Jeld-Wen and Reliabilt Interior Bifold Doors.

Approxiamtely 170,800 doors were sold by JELD-WEN, Inc., of Klamath Falls, Ore. Home Depot, Lowe's and other building products retailers between February 2011 and March 2012 for about $40 to $80

The hazard with these doors appears to be the lower pivot pin can break causing the door to disengage from the overhead track, posing an impact hazard.

To date, JELD-WEN is aware of twelve incidents of broken pivot pins causing the bifold doors to disengage from the overhead track, including three incidents involving minor injuries.

The recalled molded white panel and flush natural wood grain bifold doors run on upper tracks and lower pivot pins. The lower pivot pin is a metal screw that fits into a white plastic sleeve that is inserted into the bottom edge of the door during the installation process. Only doors with pivot pins that have 12 rectangular indentations in the collar at the end of the sleeve are subject to the recall.

If you own one of these doors you should stop using them and contact JELD-WEN for assistance in identifying and obtaining free replacement hardware and technical assistance.

Consumer Contact: JELD-WEN toll-free at (877) 228-4888 between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. CT Monday through Friday, online at www.jeld-wen.com or directly to the product safety page at: www.jeld-wen.com/newhardware for more information.
