What's new at Concord Carpenter?

Happy Holidays!!!

This morning as I sit and type this newsletter to you I wonder where the year has gone, how quickly it has passed and what I did or did not accomplish.

The end of each year finds us thinking about holidays, family,  fun parties and friends, as well as the closing out of another business year.

The end of the year is a time to look back on the previous year and look forward to the next. And while reflecting on the past year I would like to suggest that you take time to remember and to give thanks for the great things that happened in your life.

Remember to build on all of the positive things that you accomplished this past year and carry that positive momentum into next year.

I wish you a Merry Christmas, Happy holidays, and a Happy and healthy New Year!

Christmas for Concord Carpenter:

The Christmas holiday always seems to give me a reality check ~ having been to a few third world countries and seeing how little so many people in the world have ~ I hate how materialistic and commercialized this holiday has become.

I try to avoid spending my time running around like crazy buying toys and presents for my kids and instead try to focus on spending time with the people I love the most.  This year I'm also committed to giving "Do-gifts."  Do-gifts are gifts that involve spending time together and sharing activities!

Christmas to me is making memories, laughing, loving and sharing time with those you love.

Helping Others?

Christmas is a time of giving but it does not have to be a material gifting.  It can be a kind word, food or just a helping hand.  A recent event prompted this ......

I often think about how different my childhood was compared to today's "Generation Y kids."

I grew up blue collar, was taught to be polite, taught a work ethic, and to respect my elders. My parents instilled in me the values of taking care of each other and to help our neighbors.

To me, Generation Y kids [I have three] seem to be pampered, and programmed with a slew of activities since they were toddlers, meaning they are both high-performance and high-maintenance.

Protect Yourself Against Telephone Fraud

Telemarketing scams against the elderly are increasingly becoming more common.

Illegal telemarketing is a serious crime that is punishable by heavy fines and long prison sentences. Hanging up on these perpetrators is the BEST way to protect against fraud.

Below is a summary of an article I wrote for a local retirement home newsletter.   Read full Article Here!

1. Be aware of the different kinds of scams.

  • Fake Bank Alert Messages:
  •  Caller ID "Spoofing":  "Free" prizes.
  • Get rich quick schemes.

2. Do not provide personal information.

3. Be wary of any investment opportunities that are guaranteed to be risk-free and provide a high return.

4. Never give out any personal information over the phone,

5. Recognize the "red flags" of fraud.

6. Know your "Do-Not-Call" rights.
