 What's new at Concord Carpenter?

 Hi Guys,

I got back from the World of Concrete in Las Vegas, NV just in time for a 30 inch snowfall blizzard.

For me that meant 20 hours of snow plowing before spending 4 hours more shoveling and snow blowing my house and workshop.

While I was snowplowing I received a frantic call that a customers hot water was not working.  Having experienced this myself, I asked them to check their hot water exhaust vent pipe to make sure it was not covered in snow.   It was!

High efficiency furnaces, water heaters and other appliances often use side wall vents rather than a chimney.  These vents can be clogged with drifting snow which can be dangerous and affect the operation of the appliance.

Saw this GDR Demolition / Recycler [photo below] at the WOC.  I sure wish I had that on the front of my truck ~ who needs a snowplow, I'd scare the snow away with this!!

2013 World Of Concrete

Remote Demolition

Every year we get pretty excited about the World of Concrete because of all the new product releases that happen just prior or during the actual show.

WOC is the construction industry's only annual international event and concrete conference dedicated to the commercial concrete and masonry construction industry.

It also has some really cool and interesting attractions to see, if you're into concrete and demolition.
The most exciting new releases this year may very well have been from Bosch.

Here's a sneak peek I filmed of what Bosch is coming out with. Check it out!!!

The Bosch RHH181 was impressive to test, especially with the NEW 4.0 Ah batteries  and BullDog rotary hammer accessories.

Bosch also came out with redesigned grinders and a job site radio.

I think I liked the Bosch PB120 12-Volt Compact Radio the most.  At 4 pounds, it is a durable, compact radio that will work with a cord, or a Bosch 12-Volt Lithium-Ion battery.

Watch this super short Bosch radio video to learn more on this radio

It also supposedly will run a full day on one battery charge ~ I'll have to see that to believe it!
Watch for a tool review on this radio soon.

The PB120 is compatible with the new Bosch Click & Go System and will store in half of the new Bosch L-BOXX-1 carrying case.

This radio looks an awful lot like the Milwaukee job site radio but the good news is Bosch solved the annoying radio cord storage problem that the Milwaukee radio has.  See:  Job Site Radio Comparison

Bosch Grinder

One segment of the WOC was dedicated to grinding and polishing of concrete floors.  I was amazed how smooth and polished a concrete floor or counter top could actually get.

Concrete floor grinders and polishers are diverse surface preparation machines designed to transform ordinary concrete into attractive, finished floors for both commercial and residential settings!

Concrete polishing is similar to that of sanding hardwood. It simply removes the old and replaces it with new, shiny concrete.

This is especially helpful once the floor has been used for many years and is starting to show pitted areas and general wear. Concrete polishing is also a good finishing step for concrete floors that have just been installed.

Concrete grinding is a simple process in which a tool equipped with rotating discs is used to remove approximately 1/8" of the concrete's surface to leave the floor with a smooth and even finish.

This is a good process to include in your concrete floor maintenance. The job is simple enough but the tools needed are very expensive and because it won't need to be done all that often, it's best to call the professionals who already have the proper equipment for this job.

Dewalt angle grinder

Dewalt also had an interesting new large angle grinder ideal for grinding and beveling steel, weld cleaning, concrete surface preparation, and cutting concrete, pipe and steel plate.

The new grinder design focuses on durability, performance, ergonomics, and user protection.

I was impressed with the tools E-Clutch feature, which protects the user from pinch events which can injure the operator if the tool spins out of control.

Another safety feature, the Power Loss Reset feature, protects the user from accidental restarts if power is lost and then restored while the trigger is in the on position.
