  What's New At Concord Carpenter?

 Hi Guys,

So far the time release photos of the ACC Bathroom demo process are pretty interesting and I'm half tempted to play Three Stooges theme music to it when I post it!

On a different project we just finished installing Warmly Yours Radiant Heat under bathroom tile.   We are doing a "Old Fashioned" mud job - over the floor heat, pictured above.  Mud job pictures coming soon.

Learn more about electric radiant heat.

 deck collapse

As spring rounds the corner I get lots of calls for deck repairs and new deck construction projects.

Alabama Deck Collapse Injures Six Students On Spring Break

Last week six students were taken to the hospital after a wood deck collapsed during a spring break party at a vacation home in Gulf Shores, Alabama.

Authorities there are focusing on the unusual load conditions imposed by a large gathering.

I do not have all of the facts but it seems like lateral forces caused the failure which resulted in the ledger board coming off the house.  Recent changes to the building code address this and had that deck had received a safety retrofit this tragedy may have been prevented.

A 2007 supplement to the IRC introduced requirements for positive connections, including a 1500-pound capacity tension tie at two locations joining the deck floor frame with the home's main floor.

American Standard

  American Standard Fixtures

At ACC we are in the process of choosing and ordering the American Standard bathroom fixtures on our ACC bathroom Project.  Unlike other manufacturers their website has been easy to navigate and descriptive.

American Standard is a leading North American manufacturer of a wide range of high quality kitchen and bath products including faucets, fixtures and also offer a line of fixtures made in the USA.

American Standard LAtrine

American Standard Design Latrine Pan For Underdeveloped reigons

Every day 2,000 children die from lack of proper sanitation.

Recently American Standard engineered a simple cost efficient hygienic latrine pan that can reduce disease and save lives in regions of the world where water is scarce and sewer infrastructure doesn't exist.

Developed in part through a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.  American Standard is giving away one of these latrines for every Champion toilet sold in the North America this year. The goal is to raise awareness of the global sanitation crisis.
