What's new at Concord Carpenter?
Last week .... this was what you should have seen
Hi Guys,
As I write this at 6:00 am, it's Patriots' Day in Massachusetts.
As I am writing this newsletter, before heading
out to the job site, I can hear cannons fire off as folks re-enact the first
battles of the American Revolution nearby.
.... this is what happened that day
The Boston Marathon Bombing
I never sent last weeks newsletter because of the chain of events that unfolded later that day at the Boston Marathon.
With thousands of runners still on the course, two bombs exploded near
the finish line of the Boston Marathon on Monday, killing three people,
injuring at least 113 and turning the city's most celebrated event into a
grisly spectacle of shattered glass, blood and screams.
Then days later the law enforcement efforts to capture the two bombers involved. The chain of events that shut down and impacted millions of Boston area and Massachusetts folks.
I personally know many of the law enforcement folks that were involved in the massive dragnet and am very proud of their courage and efforts during this scarey time.
My thoughts and prayers go out to all of the victims and families involved in this act of terrorism. Please remember the following in your prayers: Krystle Campbell, NArtin Richards, Lu Lingzi and MIT Officer Sean Collier.
My thoughts, prayers and sympathies to the family of this fallen police officer, his co-workers and friends. Thank you for making the ultimate sacrifice to keep our communities safe.
Rest in peace bother!
How You Can Help:
In the days since the devastating Boston attacks, donors have given millions of dollars to help the grieving families and the victims suffering from critical injuries.
Individual Funds
- While waiting for their dad to cross the finish line, Martin Richard, 8, was killed in the blast
and his younger sister, whose name has not been released, had her leg
amputated in the aftermath. Their mother, Denise, was also hospitalized
with serious injuries. To help the familiy get through this devastating
period, friends and family have established the Richard Family Fund. Find out how you can support the Richards here.
- In lieu of flowers, the family of Krystle Campbell, a 29-year-old woman from Medford, Mass., who was killed in the explosions, has asked supporters to make donations to the Krystle M. Campbell Memorial Fund. Contributions can be sent to 25 Park St. Medford, MA 02155
- Jeff Bauman,
a spectator who lost both legs in the aftermath of the blasts, will
likely face hefty medical bills as he begins to recover. To help offset
the costs, friends and family have launched the Bucks For Bauman fundraiser. Find out how you can get involved here.
Bauman's family is also asking people to send letters of support to Jeff. Mail can be sent to: Jeff Bauman C/O Jen Joyce 117 Tyngsboro Rd. Westford, MA 01886 or Jeff Bauman C/O Jen Joyce P.O. Box 261 Chelmsford, MA 01824. Learn more about Jeff's progress on his Facebook support page.
- Friends and family of Patrick and Jessica Downes,
newlyweds who each had a leg amputated after the blasts, are raising
money for the couple's medical bills. Find out how you can get involved
with Help for Patrick and Jess here.
General Funds
- The One Fund Boston, Inc.
was established by Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick and Boston
Mayor Tom Menino to help the people most affected by the Boston Marathon
tragedy. Find out how you can get involved here.
- The Salvation Army
has deployed four mobile feeding kitchens and more than 30 volunteers
to dispense food, drinks and emotional support in Boston. Find out how
you can get involved here.

Skil 360 quick Select - the perfect Father's Day Gift
The SKIL 360 Quick Select provides you with twelve [12] of the most
commonly-used integrated bits and instantly allows the user to quickly
select the proper fastener bit by simply twisting the built in bit
holder cartridge. An LED light illuminates the magnified fastener
bit window to allow the user to quickly and conveniently select a bit.
A battery level indicator also indicates whether the tool is driving
forward or reverse, a nice function for the DIYer.
Milwaukee M12 Fuel 1/4" Hex Screwdriver
I first spied the Milwaukee M12 FUEL 1/4
Hex 2 speed Screwdriver at the 2012 Milwaukee Tool media event and I've
been waiting to tell you folks about it ever since.
Milwaukee
turned up the heat with their M12 Fuel line - they basically hit a home
run by being the first to introduce a 12-volt brush-less drill, driver,
impact driver line, and 12-volt 2.0Ah or 4.0Ah battery packs

I've done a lot of work on this home and in these photos I am cutting out a rotted section of a corner post in a circa 1700-1800 post and beam home. We made the repair in place by cutting out the rot and scabbing in new wood. Interesting fact about this house is here.
