What's new at Concord Carpenter?

Hi Guys,

I took last week off from the newsletter - CRAZY week.  One of the crew injured his back so I have been pulling some double duty.  While I absolutely love working on the job site more than I normally do, it stinks to get home to 200 emails, invoices, payroll and estimates.

The bathroom project is moving along nicely and we recently posted several videos.  The next few newsletters will be focusing on this project as we take every opportunity to detail and explain the process and steps involved.

Most of the videos have time lapse filming to show you the process in action!!

If you are planning on doing a bathroom remodel these videos will save you time and aggravation as a home owner and PROs can glean a few management and install tips here as well!

Bathroom Remodeling Video Series

Keep dust in the work zone and out of the rest of the house.  Make your customers happy, look professional and be productive!

Use a concrete footing and a ladder to make a simple but VERY effective demo chute to avoid get debris into a dumpster and avoid carrying trash and debris through the house.

Intro to a bath remodel, dust containment and the demolition process

Old under-layment removal, plumbing disconnect, relocating plumbing fixtures,  structural / floor framing issues, framing issues for half wall and rough plumbing

Fire blocking and insulation issues, sub-floor and copper shower pan installation.  Drop in tub and half wall framing.

Coordination of contractor efforts is key of any remodeling project and we discuss it in this video!

This episode deals with adding additional stiffening support to a shower half wall.
l
Whether you call it a half wall, knee wall or Pony wall the issue is the same.  What is the best way to go about reinforcing a half wall?   No one likes a wobbly wall or the cracked plaster and tile that result from it.

Reinforcing a shower half wall
We typically see half walls separating stair opening and replacing railings and balusters at stairs.  We also see them a lot in bathrooms;  separating a toilet /sink or at a shower that has 1/2 glass partitions.

This video re-caps the process so far and really gets into the necessity of coordination of subcontractor effort.  It also touches on design points that you should be aware of BEFORE you ever start a project!

This video will save you time and aggravation as will this article:

When you look at your bathroom to spruce it up or remodel it you need to ask yourself whether you have the time, energy and budget to take a project like this on.   At the end of the day there are three bathroom remodeling strategies to consider and all three are different and range in cost.

Bathroom Plumbing Disconnect - the Easy Way!

You're remodeling your bathroom and are finally ready to replace the old chipped vanity and dull and worn out shower surround.    You want to demo the bathroom yourself to save money but your nervous of the live water pipes in the wall.
Don't be - here's a simple approach to performing a plumbing disconnect - the easy way.

How To Write A Construction Proposal:

I  am constantly asked by fellow tradesman what I put in my contract.  I know it can be a pain to do and is often frustrating to wrap you're head around but regardless of the cost of a project a written construction proposal protects all parties involved.

A written construction proposal that clearly details and "paints a picture" of what you are promising to do. Details in this proposal  include specific materials, payment schedule and costs.

RIDGID 7" Tile Saw Giveaway:

The folks at Ridgid are offering one of my newsletter subscribers a chance to win their 7 inch tile saw.

The RIDGID 7 Inch tile Saw is a lightweight, affordable, solid tile saw with durably quality features. In my opinion this saw is serious DIY-er or light duty PRO saw.   As a contractor I use this innovative saw as my go-to saw on small jobs where using a hand cutter is not feasible and carrying and setting up a larger saw is a hassle or space is limited.

Learn More about this saw by reading my tool review: RIDGID 7 Inch tile Saw

Milwaukee 12V Fuel 1/4 Hex driver

Winner Of the MilwaukeeTool Giveaway:

The winner of our Milwaukee Tool Giveaway
is Joseph Kholer a plumbing and heating contractor.  Congrats Joe!  You win a Milwaukee 1/4" Hex M12 FUEL  screw driver.   I love mine, it's a great shop tool or light duty install tool.

Milwaukee turned up the heat with their M12 Fuel line - they basically hit a home run by being the first to introduce a 12-volt brush-less drill, driver, impact driver line, and 12-volt 2.0Ah or 4.0Ah battery packs
