What's new at Concord Carpenter?

Hi Guys,

Well we got news that the Police Academy may be running an earlier class and our guy Josh may be gone as early as this week.  We wish him a safe and healthy career in law enforcement.

Josh told us that after the academy and "break-in" training period is over he still wants to work with us a few days a week and also continue review tools - time will tell I guess!

As a result of me mentioning Josh leaving in last weeks newsletter I received a few emails from some young, local carpenters and newsletter subscribers looking for work.  So the upside is we may already found Josh's replacement and I don't have to go through that awful Craig's List screening and interview process.

We also found some talented PRO contractors interested in reviewing tools - more on that soon!

Recent Bathroom Remodel Videos

I've been filming video of the ACC bathroom feeder project.    We are currently up to 11 videos and counting.  Here are a few recent ones:

Video 9:  Installing CBU:  how to install Cement Backer Board for tile floors

Video 10:  Electric Radiant Floor Heat:  planning, considerations and installation.

Bathroom Project:

Above is a photo of the glass tile and white marble, bull nose we are using as an accent piece on the shower.  The bull nose is needed to provide a break in the subway tile because the glass tile is thiner and the subway edges are sharp.  The glass tile will also cover a 12" high band around the American Standard Eco Silent Tub.

The tile was ordered and on site a month ago.    As many of you may have read in my article, How To Plan A Bathroom Remodel, it never makes sense to start a remodeling project until you have all the items you need to get the job done.

That still does not mean there are not set backs.  Yours truly measured one of the Silestone pieces wrong and as a result the tile installer was not able to finish the tub surround tile or the floor around the shower.

The important lesson here is to recognize that set backs and budget over runs do occur and to plan for them.  I tell folks to build in a time buffer and to NEVER do a remodeling project that HAS TO BE COMPLETED before a major event such as a a wedding or other party!

TIP:  Build in a time buffer as well as plan for at least 10% extra on the budget.

Remodeling A Bathroom Shower

When folks decide to re-do their shower they get excited about choosing fixtures, tiles and glass doors.  What they do not think about is waterproofing their shower and properly preparing your backer board for tile.

This article discusses one method of waterproofing your shower walls and floors.

Bosch TC10 Tile Wet Saw

We've been using the Bosch TC10 Wet Saw on our job site.  I hope to have an in depth review for you soon but for now suffice to saw that we like it alot but we feel there may be a few details still to be worked out.

I first saw this saw at the 2012 Bosch media event ad you can see a short video on it and hear Jason Feldner [Bosch Product Manager and Video Rock Star] talk it up!
