What's new at Concord Carpenter

Hi Guys,
This week we've been busy interviewing carpenters to join the ACC team.   Unfortunately we have only have one position and have narrowed culled the list down to 4 good candidates.   That magic questions is ... but which one?

Many of these guys work for other contractors on a daily basis and are treated as subcontractors, not employees with payroll deductions.  It amazes me these folks are willing too risk huge IRS fines.

Employee or Sub-contractor?

Maybe a lot of folks are unaware but the IRS uses three categories to determine whether a person is an employee or a true subcontractor.   They looks at the level of control exercised over a worker in the following three categories:

1.  Behavioral Control
2.  Financial Control
3.  The Relationship Between the Parties.

 Pet Door Update:

Two weekends ago we installed an Endura Flap Pet Door for our Concord Carpenter Cable Show.  This was a first and we were unsure if the dogs would use it.

Check out this short video showing the install and dogs using the door - Hilarious!!!

How to Control Remodeling Dust

As a remodeling contractor I learned early on that learning how to control remodeling dust and keeping out of the non-remodeled portion of your clients home is often more important than the quality of your work.

Over the years I have developed strategies and researched the BEST methods to control remodeling dust.

Bosch Heated Jacket

Heated Jackets have slowly started showing up on the job-site as a  solution for the cold weather job-site wear.  I've been seeing them elsewhere too; on hunters, walkers, sports fans and regular people just walking about town.

We recently took a look at three brands of heated jackets.  This article will focus on the Bosch Heated Jacket PSJ120.

Installing Crown Molding To Metal Studs

Installing crown molding to metal studs seem to be the norm in more and more condos that we work in as well.

Hand nailing crown molding into steel studs does not work and using an air gun makes for a very dangerous situation and installing angled nails just into the blue board is also not a quality installation and will show gaps and separations after the first heating season.

Quality More Important Than Price

Have you ever stopped to wonder why folks remodel their home?  Or why they choose to do a project themselves vs hiring a professional to do it?

Well I think about this stuff a lot and I've always believed that Quality is more important than price to homeowners when choosing a re-modeler.
