Concord Carpenter Workshop News
Hi Guys,
I've been teasing you for the last two weeks. This past week we finished the Head-to-Head testing on six
18-Volt cordless circular saws and the review is up ont he ACC site.
With hours of cutting and critical analysis of each saw's
features and performance we are providing readers with a comprehensive
look at each saw's bright-spots and areas for improvement.
Check out our Head-to-Head Facebook photo album.
Don't forget we are giving away a MAKITA 18V X2 LXT Lithium-Ion(36V) Cordless 7-1/4" Circular Saw. This
had got contractors attention and features a 7-1/4 saw blade,
has the power of a 36 volt saw but is powered by two 18V batteries. This
is a game changer for contractors; framers and carpenters who want the
power of a 36-volt saw but are invested in the 18 volt battery platform.
Tip of the Week!
Here's a neat clamp trick I used this week. I needed to pull a bow out of this built-in cabinet and install a fixed shelf. To pull the bow out I needed a 24-inch clamp but only had 16-inch clamps.
Instead of leaving the job-site for a 15 minute drive to the shop and back, I used two clamps, mated them together by clamping the cabinet and the clamps together. the trick worked great and got me out of a bind.
Last week I mentioned that the ACC crew will be helping the " Build America" program which is a six week team
event traveling the country promoting accessible recreation for people with
disabilities.
This coming June the crew at Concord Carpenter is hoping to be able to instruct the Build America Team on tool usage and tool safety.
Over the next several newsletters will be covering the Build America program and asking for tool manufactures for new tool donations as well as monetary donations from newsletter subscribers. The link above brings you to their 501(c)(3) nonprofit
donation portal.
Will You Help Build America?
So far 3 people and one tool manufacturer [RIDGID tools], has volunteered to help.
I have included a link to a 4 question survey. If you are even remotely interested in helping us on this worthwhile project let us know by filling out the survey. We're not sure what kind of help yet since were still flushing out the details.
JLV LIVE Update
This week the crew at Concord Carpenter took the day off to attend the JLC LIVE event in Providence, RI.
For us attending this event is a no-brainer. Not only is it an hour from our shop but it is a trade show designed and geared for the PRO tradesman.
We saw cool stuff like stainless steel flashing tape, reusable, washable, zip-together dust containment walls from ZipWall and an innovative floor covering for remodeling projects from Cover Guard®. Cover Guard was developed for the temporary
protection of all types of floor finishes. It is also suitable for
protecting walls, bulkheads, weatherdecks, furnishings and for wrapping
and containment. We are oping to review it on a job-site soon.
One product you should keep an eye out on is from FastenMaster. It's a hot glue gun called PAMTite. This glue installs fast and sets in 3-minutes.
The PAMTite Adhesive System includes a rugged, industrial grade glue gun
and uses assorted, non-toxic adhesives that sets in 60-seconds to 3-minutes.
It can be used for carpet tack strips, transition strips, as well as
hardwood flooring starter rows and transition strips. It can also be used
for wood moldings, vinyl cove molding, ceramic tile repair and many
other interior applications.
Very impressive to say the least!! Watch the site for a review soon.
Below are a few of the JLC products that I especially liked:
Festool Releasing New Tools
TS55C Cordless Track Saw:
While we did not attend the Festool Connect but we did get a sneak peek at the new TS55C Track Saw. The "C" stands for cordless and its a beauty. Check out our 1 minute sneak peek video of this tool in action.
DURA DRIVE Screw Guns:
Festool is also considering releasing a new DuraDrive drywall and decking 18V brush-less drill gun. Check out our 1-minute video on these drills.
QUAD Drill PDC18:
Additionally Festool Quad Drill PDC18 drill has a 4.2Ah battery and a ton of features. While it is not available in the U.S. yet, they are showing it to see if there is interest.
Festool wants these drills to compete in the residential construction market. This new drill has all the bells and whistles you get accustomed to from Festool. Watch out informative 1 minute video on the Quad Drill.
Festool Job-Site Tables Saw:
You're reading this correctly . . . a table-saw. Festool discussed with their focus group a dual beveling job-site saw. Plan on seeing something in 3 years and as usual plan on spending 1000 to 1500 for it!
Simpson Concealed Post Tie
This is an innovative system that allows you to anchor your deck posts without having to see those unsightly galvanized hardware. A complete thought for a finished look!
Bosch L-Boxx Table Top
I stopped into the Bosch booth to say help to Joe Saintz [Joe The Pro] and noticed that Bosch had this cool looking table top clipped L-boxx system.
The table is made by Sortimo and is not currently available. Bosch is looking into whether folks like us would want these. My answer is YES!
It clips onto the L-Boxx and was secure and stable. A perfect "quick erect" job-site table.
Diamond Pier Foundation System
While pin pile technology has been around for ages it has mostly been in the dock, pier and sinking foundation world. Recently Diamond Pier has introduced a foundation system for decks, porches, gazebos, docks and more that is code recognized and compliant.
