Concord Carpenter Workshop News

Hi Guys,

This past week has been interesting for me.  I received a call Friday asking if I would be interested in taking over Boston Globe Correspondent Peter Hotton's column, "Handy Man On Call."  I'm meeting with the Globe this week to discuss specifics later today - wish me luck!

The Build America crew has been busy doing great things and their trip is winding down, ending next week. They have had sporadic internet connections so we do  not have an update to day for you today.

Cleaning Things Up!

These past few weeks we have been testing the Simpson ALH3225 pressure washer.  While using the Simpson ALH3225 the first two things that left a big impression was weight and ease of starting.

This unit is light-weight, lifting it into of my pick up truck was a breeze and the engine started on the first pull.  Nice!!

All of us on the ACC crew agreed that this unit is the perfect for the mobile pro contractor and perfect for the homeowner or DIYer who likes to tackle their own cleaning projects.  READ MORE here and watch the video review.

Milwaukee Tool Giveaway

The folks at Milwaukee Tool have released two, heavy duty, job site, work boxes.  A 13-inch and a 26-inch  Job-site Work Box.  Built for extreme durability, the new storage solution can survive over 1000 drops, loaded with 25 and 50 pounds respectively.

Milwaukee is going to give one each to one lucky Concord Carpenter newsletter subscriber.

Carpenter's Tip

Is your job site safe?  Do you take precautions to make it safe?  Do you include statements in your proposal advising the client of safety?

Without adequate safety and health policies in place, job site injuries are inevitable. Find out about OSHA standards for job sites, and how to avoid accidents and injuries.

Sometimes the best way to think about safety is to see what OSHA says are the most frequent OSHA violations.

Include safety wording in your contracts:   Why have a construction contract

Let's not forget the workshop.  Many DIYer and beginner woodworkers fail to follow safety rules - here's a few:  Workshop Safety Rules

Milwaukee Laser Distance Meter 2282-20

Laser distance meters put a huge amount of measuring and layout capability in the palm of your hand. While I doubt that the tape measure will ever go away, there are a lot of good reasons to have a laser distance measure in your tool box.

Many of the laser distance meters available are  difficult to use, having complicated interfaces and buttons that read like hieroglyphs rather than the buttons on a measurement tool.

Milwaukee took note of this and designed a simpler, easier-to-use tool, the Milwaukee Laser Distance Meter 2282-20. READ MORE
