Concord Carpenter Workshop News

Hi Guys,

This week will be a short newsletter.

The ACC Crew has been busy preparing for our training that we agreed to do for the Build America crew.  Yesterday we spent 14 hours preparing a barn for the training and we're still not finished.

The ACC Crew, and Todd Fratzel from ToolBoxBuzz.com,  wanted to part of something bigger than ourselves so we volunteered to instruct the Build America Team [BAM] on tool usage and tool safety.

This is an intensive 2-day program that will teach these 17 to 20 young men how to safely use, and operate power tools, and how to build some of the projects they will be encountering.

Tuesday we take delivery of all the tools the folks at DEWALT, Milwaukee and Stanley donated - thanks to them theBAM team has the tools needed tomake a difference!

Special thanks to the tool companies, Todd Fratzel, Concord Lumber Corp and the ACC Crew:  Phil Benevides, Ethan Bickford, Billy Burns, Josh Bordenca,  - this would not have happened if they all did not agree to jump on board and help me do this!!!

The BAM team will consist of college students and recent graduates who travel the country, for 6-weeks, visiting camps and parks rebuilding and building accessible recreation for people with disabilities.

During these six weeks, the team, will build accessible fishing piers, nature trails, climbing walls, wheel chair ramps and many other amenities providing opportunities for campers to experience everything summer camp has to offer.

Throughout the summer, the team will log over 4,000 man hours, save camps and communities thousands of dollars in labor and materials and positively impact the lives of thousands of people with disabilities.

Build America fully encompasses the mission of Push America as it is a truly selfless act to benefit others.  The ACC newsletter will follow the BAM team on this 6-week journey!

Enter to WIN Bosch Daredevil spade bits

Here's your chance to win an innovative Daredevil spade bit from Bosch.  Daredevil spade bits drill 10x faster than standard spade bits, saving you up to 30 minutes a day.

The bit's hex shank with power groove design reduces slippage while a full-cone threaded tip allows for fast and effortless drilling.  Daredevil spade bits have a contoured paddle for faster chip removal, which means easier overhead drilling through triple stacked lumber.  A spur and reamer provide cleaner holes.

Bostitch Smart Point Nailers

A team of smart Bostitch engineers recently developed a new line of finish nailers that allow for quick and accurate nail placement through a tool nose design which integrates the contact trip.  Bostitch Smart Point finish nailers is a new generation of precise, accurate and impressive tools.

The noses on these new finish nailers are 80% smaller than previous BOSTITCH nailers, and eliminate the need to push against the work surface to actuate allowing fastening in tighter spaces, improving visibility for  nail placement and easier to use.

Replacing A 150 Year Old Rooftop Finial

Recently a customer of ours had their roof replaced.  At the peak of the house's hip roof sat a beautiful acorn shaped finial. This finial had been repaired many times over the past 100 years and was now a candidate for replacement.

This roof finial is not easy to get to so the roofers took  it down when re-roofing.  This article is how we went about replacing an acorn roof finial.

  Carpenter's Tip

Woodworking can be a fun and enjoyable hobby, IF you follow some very basic and simple rules.

All workshop safety rules are based on common-sense, but failing to follow these rules will greatly increase the chance of injury when working with your tools.
