What are Social Leaders Doing Today?
Social Leaders are ordinary people who act on a sense of responsibility or desire to improve things. Seldom have they been schooled or professionally prepared for these activities, they simply used the gifts they have, intensely care about future and do their best to add to the legacy of those who have gone before.

Below are great examples of social leadership within our community:

Michael Martin, Monticello, Utah

Michael is a young father and husband, who owns a small computer business in a very small town. Recently he hosted a "Tea Party" and  founded a Civics Group that meets monthly to study citizen responsibility, regularly attends City Council meetings and promotes the concept of every citizen doing their duty. He uses the local library to hold meetings and communicates via email. His numbers are small but he feels a real sense of mission and is leading in a way that he can.

Becky Davies, San Diego, California

Becky is a homeschooling mother. Recently she felt the need to offer her time to help administer a local home school support group known as a "Commonwealth School." It is a little-known group of just 30 or 40 kids, but to those kids and their families, it is very important and really adds to the sense of community.

Angela Walters, Pflugerville, Texas

Angela is the mother of two children. She volunteers with Cub Scouts and at a local historic farm. She also administers a website called "Families for the Constitution." When she's not mothering or volunteering, she's a distance studies student at George Wythe University. Angela is also passionate about emergency preparedness. She recently organized a community "simulation," where participants were invited to enact emergency scenarios. Her efforts increased awareness and helped participants become much more prepared.

Larry Sorrel, San Juan County, Utah

Larry is retired and lives on a small farm in the outskirts of the county. He takes college classes on history, philosophy and government. Larry is a regular at County Commissioner meetings. Recently, he was instrumental in stopping poorly written and damaging legislation from being passed in his county. He is known to speak his mind in the area and express his opinions from time to time in editorials in the newspaper. He is not trying to start a movement, he just feels responsible for what he will leave the coming generation.
