Getting to the Heart of the Matter

Dear everyone,

If you woke up recently feeling horror and despair over the latest shooting of children in Texas, this one's for you.

If it is the loss of lives and livelihoods caused by a senseless war in Ukraine, the effects of climate change, a pandemic that doesn't seem to quit, and/or the nightmare clutter situation that is making you reel right now, this one's for you.

While I have no immediate answers and promises that these conditions will change anytime soon, what I can offer is a different way to relate to them; alternatives to steeping in bad news that sends us spiraling down the rabbit hole of worry and fear; ways to take our power back, make a difference, and lighten the load for everyone.

I wrote a post recently on the power of the human heart to change our homes and lives (and the world by extension). It lays out the science behind the heart's magical abilities and offers a simple practice you can do right now to turn up the light. You can read more about it below.

I make these short one-second slices-of-life videos not just to recall some good times. Taking pictures and putting them to great music is medicine; an antidote to the grim and painful realities that we face these days. It helps me remember the goodness of people, the beauty that surrounds us, and the magic that happens when we let go of attachment to outcome and revel in what shows up. April was that for me. I'll leave you with these three cardinal rules for sustainability and longevity by Andre De Shields. They go right to the heart of the matter and inspire me every day. May these inspire you too:

Surround yourself with people whose eyes light up when they see you coming.
Slowing is the fastest way to get to where you want to be.
The top of one mountain is the bottom of the next. So keep climbing!

Turn Up the Light, Change the World

If we want to make sense of the senseless, we need to do just that. Sense.

We need to feel into all that which causes us pain without getting lost in the story behind it. In other words, to bypass the thinking mind and tune in with the heart.

If a heart-based practice can be so effective at shifting the energies at home, imagine what can happen when you direct those same frequencies out in the world.

If you want to go on a deep dive of what is possible, I recommend Dr. Joe Dispenza's brilliant book Becoming Supernatural: How Common People Are Doing the Uncommon.

I stumbled into the audiobook version when I was playing with my new library app the other day and I have not been able to put it down since.

What I love about it is that it distills everything I've known to be true about our abilities to change how we think and feel. It gives us tools to manifest what we most desire and evidence that it works. He explains concepts (that can easily go in one ear and out the other) and grounds them in very real, relatable situations.
