Greetings / Salve,

I want to wish everyone a happy and healthy New Year. Being injury free is the key to consistent training, and therefore getting good results. I’m certainly not training to run slower than my previous races.

How to Improve Acceleration

I am taking lessons from Lyle McDonald of The Protein Book by writing multi-part series. Trying to cram 2000-3000 words in a single Blog post proves to be too daunting for most readers. The average Blog post has 350-400 words. You may have read the Sports and Energy drinks guide last month. This month was dedicated to a series on How to Improve Acceleration.

Part 1, which discussed hip mechanics, can be found here.

Part 2 discussed several types of Resistance Running can be found here.

Part 3 and 4, written by Jim Hiserman, discusses The Role of Strength and Power Training. For easier reading, I created a single 8 page PDF format.

I’ll finish off Part 5 on Plyometrics later this month.

Best of December 2010

As always, here are the best articles for December 2010.

Enjoy,

2010-12-02 11:00:00-05

Today is John Akii-Bua’s birthday. John Akii-Bua (December 3, 1949 – June 20, 1997) was a Ugandan hurdler but coached by famed British-born coach Malcolm Arnold. He won the 400 meter hurdles Olympic Gold medal in Munich 1972 from Lane 1, and was denied a repeat chance with the African boycott in Montreal 1976. Unlike other Olympic Gold [...]

The Psoas Major Muscle: the Forgotten Hip Flexor
2010-12-08 01:28:00-05

In a perfect world, this Blog would consist of 70% training articles (including track, plyometric and weight workoiuts), 20% on recovery and regeneration, and 10% on nutrition and supplements.  That’s my rough estimate (and I mean rough) on a successful training program. That being said, I talked endlessly on the importance of the hips in sprinting.  [...]

Sugar: The Bitter Truth Revisited with Dr. Robert Lustig
2010-12-13 14:00:00-05

I have been moonlighting on another job which explains the infrequent posting here on Speedendurance. I pride on the fact that ALL the information on this site is free, with no monthly membership fees.  That being said, I do have to earn a living, and that’s where I am a Technology Consultant on the side. At the [...]
