I just love cycles. They are dependable. They return like clockwork on a schedule. Each time a regular orbiting planet returns to its original position, an old story with specific issues ends while a new one begins, and both have similar themes. In many ways, it is like a planetary DNA whose essence carries the same themes through history but a few twists and turns along the road.

I have been looking at the comet, Chiron, for a long time now – since it was discovered in late 1977. I don’t claim to be an authority – unlike my contemporaries like Zane Stein, Barbara Hand Clow, and Melanie Reinhart, but I do have a sense of how it operates after watching it for over 50 years. The return of Chiron has some remarkable similarities to history.

The reason for today’s newsletter is prompted by the incredibly sad story of the recent collapse of the Frances Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, Maryland and how that event brings people together to help. I ask myself why do catastrophes have to happen to bring people together? The news is infused with many kinds of calamities many of which we didn’t see coming like the bridge, but also infused with calamities that many have seen coming for a long time.

This bridge collapse took place close to the Lunar Eclipse (Full Moon) at 5° Libra 07’ (with the Sun at 5° Aries 07’). And this eclipse, like the next one on April 8, 2024, is near the movement of transiting Chiron. Full Moons shed light on things long suppressed or hidden. This brings stark realities into the news and brings things to a head. Though this week’s Lunar Eclipse (the Full Moon of March 25) was near Chiron, the events of the days fired warning shots that were seen in the news that will, probably, be more focused on the next eclipse on April 8, 2024, a Total Solar Eclipse at 19° Aries 24’. On that day, Chiron will be within 1° of the Total Eclipse.

There are many delineations of Chiron, but the one thread that runs through all the stories is that Chiron acts as a catalyst for a change long overdue. As Joyce Mason, another authority on Chiron, often said, “Chiron is like Pluto, but it leads us more gently.” The way Chiron acts up is that we are given signals, that if we use our intellect and curiosity, we pay attention and make long-needed changes. But we are humans, and though we often know something isn’t right or doesn’t appear completely correct, we set the signals aside and that is when Chiron bites creating a deep wound that is so obvious, that we must cauterize and heal that wound. Chiron’s animal nature warrants that type of response because in mythology, he is half human (and has a high intellect), but he is often half animal, and the two parts always struggle. In moments of extreme pain, the underlying intelligence accompanying that moment of horrendous pain prompts a fast and final intelligent response to make things right.

I know that is a log way around the horn in teasing out a picture of Chiron. This was necessary because that visual prompt a more visceral delineation of the following. Chiron usually takes approximately 51 to 52 years to return to the same place in the zodiac. Currently, it is at 17°to 19°Aries. These degrees spurred my curiosity, so I went back 52 years and what did I find? Watergate!

The Watergate break in took place on June 17, 1972, when transiting Chiron was at 17° Aries as it has been in these last weeks. As it moves closer to the Total Solar Eclipse on April 8, ‘bites’ are happening every place we look. Chiron is also in what we term the second decanate of the sign of Aries (which is Leo), offering a combination of Mars and Sun energy – which is a heroic marker as well as a marker for extreme narcissism if higher consciousness isn’t accessed.

Since we are talking about unconscious actions leading to a ‘cosmic bite,’ another term for this is resulting from hubris. Hubris in mythology was defined as the ‘sin of pride against the gods.’ One of the shadow sides of Aries (with a Leo decanate) is arrogance and self-importance. Displaced pride. And an inability to listen because of innate arrogance. Impulse control, angry rhetoric, angry responses are all the ‘sins’ or shadows of these signs.

This is what was going on with President Richard Nixon and his cronies who fell after the news of the Watergate break was exposed in summer, 1972. If one reads the history of that time, an eye-opening time for Americans as well as the world, and you look at the position of Chiron – there it was – at the same degrees it has been hanging out in these last weeks at the 17th degree of Aries. So, with that said, what just happened this week?

Jeffrey Clark and John Eastman who were major players in the attempt to overthrow the 2020 election were in separate trials for creating schemes to overturn the 2020 Election results. Currently, at this writing, their licenses to practice law are at risk.

Kari Lake of Arizona, who is currently running for governor of the state of Arizona, also fed the lie that the election was stolen and was about to begin a defamation lawsuit for going after the then Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer for falsifying election results. The trial was scheduled for this week. Instead of going to trial, she backed down, probably so that her records would not be revealed, and conceded that her ‘lies were just that: lies.” The hubris was on full display with all the above in these last years.

This week, the former president, was assigned a final trial date for April 15, 2024 (during the Mercury Retrograde) for the cover-up of hush money payments to porn star Stormy Daniels, which is his first felony trial. Needing money for this and all his other legal troubles, he committed the hubris of selling a Bible that also includes the USA Constitution – a blatant disconnect in that church and state are supposed to be separate as our founders wrote.

Hubris is rampant all over the world currently. The ongoing horrific Israel/Gaza situation has Prime Minister Netanyahu standing under ‘the sword of Damocles’ as global pressure increases to arrive at a more humanitarian response while defending Israel’s right to defend itself against the horrific events of October 7, 2023. He is being offered assistance and ideas to arrive at a strategy to correct this situation. In a moment of hubris, he cancelled the delegation to come to Washington to work on a solution, but after the eclipse of the 25th and pressure from inside Israel and the USA, he agreed to a delegation meeting.

I could go on and on about all the balloon popping of egos happening in these last few days, but I am sure you readers are fed up with the news and the anxieties that accompany the daily barrage of new things coming out of the cupboards and closets that we never expected. This is also a signpost on the road of change coming as we approach another important cycle that only returns every 13.81 years. reflection of the last weeks before the upcoming 13.81 cycle where Jupiter and Uranus conjoin (this time at 21° Taurus) after the last one that took place in June 2010 at 00° Aries (by the way – last Monday’s Lunar Eclipse at 5° Libra and 5° Aries was on that last Jupiter/Uranus configuration. The next one starts on April 20, 2024.

On a more positive note of Chiron’s position at 19° Aries that also imparts a more heroic scenario, In Alabama, the most stringent state regarding Women’s Rights, who recently banned IVF, this started a firestorm of resistance from voters aware of the ‘hubris’ of taking away more women’s rights and further curtailing more options for women’s reproductive health.

On Wednesday, we heard about Marilyn Lands who won a special election for the Alabama state House seat late Tuesday, flipping a Republican held seat in this deep-red state. This was in the aftermath of Alabama’s decision to declare embryos as human beings and thereby banning the practice. In this same week, the Supreme Court, who has had their own share of public debate, heard a case to prevent Mifepristone from being available to women as it has been for many years.

The court confronted those bringing the suit before the court stating – basically – this is one small case, and you want to completely change the availability for the entire population? It didn’t play with the court, which doesn’t mean that the court isn’t finished with these types of issues, but there is something in the wind. An awareness, or perhaps we might call it a return to intelligence? Let’s see what this return of Chiron does over the course of the next few months. Frankly, I am more hopeful after this week’s news.
