Julie Needed A GENTLE Solution To Stop Co-Sleeping
|
Julie's adorable 4-month old daughter's sleep was so-so...as long as she was swaddled, had a pacifier in her mouth, and was sleeping right next to her mama! Understandably, Julie was anxious to get her daughter sleeping independently, without all those
sleep props. But Julie was adamant about using gentle sleep solutions. Fortunately, she found us, and we were able to give her sleep help that was both gentle AND effective! Click to read Julie's entire story.

"Julian has been sleeping through the night for the better part of two months and it didn't take too much
to get him there. I followed your steps in the previous email and within 2 nights he was sleeping through the night or would only wake momentarily and then go back to sleep. I have felt like a new person, it actually took me a while to stop waking up every few hours because I was just as much in that habit as he was. My life has become so much more manageable with good consistent sleep!"

Q: Hello, I write this after a long sleepless night last night with my 9mo old (actual age)/6mo old (adjusted age). My
daughter used to have long stretches at night (7-8 hours) when she was young then the 4mo old sleep regression happened and it all went down hill. I have a 3.5 year old at home who needs me too. What can I do to soften the transition for her naps [on] ME to the Pack and Play? HELP!!! -One Tired Mama Bear
A: Hi Tired Mama Bear! I know how exhausted you must be, especially since you can't nap yourself during the day with your 3.5 year old. It sounds like your daughter is at a good age to start teaching her how to fall asleep without being held and more
independently. We've published a few tips for gently transitioning to a separate sleeping space on our blog here. It's always best to have your plan in place before you get started working on this process. If you're already a member, we also have a case study and sample
plan here among other resources. If you need more specific help as you go through this, you can also consider chatting live with a sleep consultant in one of our weekly chats in our Members Area. Each situation is so unique that this little blurb can't give you all the tools you and she need to be successful, but
hopefully this gets you started. We're here to help!

One thing about my boys is that they love cuddle time with mommy before bed. Who ever said sleep training meant you can't cuddle with your babies? Some people paint a picture that sleep training is so cold, but if you do it right,
it is more of a teaching experience, and less of a "being a drill sergeant" experience. I'm proof of that! My "babies" are now 11 and 13 years old, and they still love cuddle time.
This time of year is always one of our last pushes before school starts soon, and every year, this sleep consultant mom adjusts their schedules back to an earlier bedtime and wake-up time. I remember one time, a while back, the boys wanted to stay up extra late, and agreed to put themselves to bed that night. I told them it was fine for them to try, but if they called me
back into their rooms, it meant they weren't ready to stay up super late and put themselves to bed. Well, a little while later, my little one calls for me and says, "I'm not ready!" LOL!! So cute. :-) He just wasn't ready to put himself to bed without cuddle time with mommy. Of course, I obliged and spent a few minutes cuddling with him. Then, my older son asked if he could cuddle with me, too - not because he needed me to, but because he wanted me to (his words!). Truth be told, I was happy
they weren't ready to go to bed without the cuddling, because neither was I! ;-)
I hope reading through our weekly newsletter has helped you realize that you are not alone, and that there is hope, and a light at the end of the tunnel. Forward this to a friend, so they know they're not alone, either!
