Sleeping Child

"Thank you so much. I cannot tell you how much you've helped! Before working with you, I was up every 3 hours and literally terrified of bedtime ... and now we are soooo close to sleeping ALL NIGHT
LONG! And best of all, I feel like I have the confidence now to do the rest on my own.
Â
And I'm no longer afraid of my child in the middle of the night, haha. :)
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!"

Q:
Hello, My little girl is 14 months old. She wakes up quite often in the night, I would say at least 7 or 8 times. I co-sleep with her. Whenever
she wakes up, I pat her for a minute or two and then she sleeps. If she doesn't sleep by patting, I offer her water in a milk bottle, not milk just the water and she goes back to sleep while drinking water or after drinking. I am not sure why she wakes up quite often. It is important for us that she sleeps through the night so that all of [us] are well rested. Thanks in advance, Jyothi
Â
A: Hello Jyothi! One thing about toddlers is they can be very active sleepers (think foot in the face), so it's very likely your daughter is simply re-positioning herself or briefly waking between sleep cycles like we all do. You simply need to stop 'doing' anything during these normal
nighttime arousals and expect them, assuming you want to continue co-sleeping. Or, if she expects the patting, then fade it out. The more you 'do' in the middle of the night, the more you reinforce there is a reason to wake more than usual at night. These are called sleep associations and while not all are bad,
some are very disruptive to sleep. Good luck!

VIP Member Resources

Hi, VIP Members! Whether
your early-riser is a wee babe or a great "big" toddler, one thing is certain: early waking is rough! The timing of your baby or toddler’s morning wake-up sets the tone for the rest of the day, AND it sets the pace for the day’s sleep and feeding schedule. That means a way-too-early wake-up call can wreak havoc on what could have otherwise been a perfectly fine day. Clearly, early rising is a problem that needs fixing, and these VIP resources can help!

Can The Wake-To-Sleep Method Lengthen Your Baby's Naps?
Â
Some people recommend the “wake to sleep” method as a way to extend short naps. But does it work? We tackle this topic in today’s article.
|
Hello,
Â
When I stop and think about how alone I felt when my son had sleep problems as a baby, I almost laugh at how wrong I was! We create Personalized Sleep Plans® for families in Australia, Ireland, Singapore, South Africa, and more. And this is on top of all the plans we do for parents who live in the U.S. One of our consultants even did a plan for a family who lived year-round on
a houseboat off the coast of Florida!
Â
I think it is both unfortunate and wonderful that we can all feel "good" about the fact that sleep struggles do not discriminate - parents everywhere, and in every living situation, struggle with sleep! And that means that none of us are alone in our sleep struggles. No matter where you are in the world, know that someone, somewhere, is likely experiencing the same sleep problems you are,
even if they are half a world away.
Â
I hope reading through our weekly newsletter has helped you realize that you are not alone, and that there is hope, and a light at the end of the tunnel. Forward this to a friend, so they know they're not alone, either!
Until next week,
