"I just cannot wait any longer to tell you that we implemented the sleep plan immediately and Alexander slept through the night - like, on night one, and it has been that way since, it's incredible!! The two other extremely positive outcomes of putting Alexander to bed [on schedule] have been that he
either sleeps past 6 (not too much past, but I'll count it as a victory) or he has waited to call me until after the 'OK to wake' green light has come on... amazing!
Â
All in all, I am so happy to share this success story with you - I cannot thank you enough for making the suggestion to change his schedule, it was spot on! THANK YOU!"

Q: Hello! We have a 9 month old who used to have terrible sleep issues - waking up every hour or two at night and naps were never on schedule. But
for the past few months she's been pretty good, she follows a nap schedule and is down to 2 wakings each night. That said, she wakes up pretty early most days, around 5/5:30AM. And, we want to get rid of that second night waking around 4AM. We think she's waking up because she's hungry. Either that or she poops and that wakes her up.
What do you recommend parents do to get down to 1 nighttime feeding? And can that help our baby "sleep in" until 6:30/7?
Thanks so much, Mike (& Kate)
Â
A: Hello Mike and Kate! At 9 months old, we can typically night-wean most babies completely but, yes, at least transition to just one night feeding. However, that doesn't often lead to sleeping later in the morning. Those are usually two different problems to solve. Waking too early is usually a result of a
schedule problem and too many night feedings where you suspect genuine hunger needs to be addressed with the daytime feeding schedule, usually. Be sure to check our sample schedules for ideas on troubleshooting what might be wrong with your 9-month-old's schedule and then gradually cut back on how much milk you give her at night to encourage larger daytime feedings.

Hello,
Â
I know some of you longtime readers enjoy updates about my family, and especially my boys, and so I wanted to let you know that our school year is off to a great start; both boys are doing so well this year, though middle school is still rigorous for my eldest. They are working so hard in their classes, and it makes me so proud to see them stay focused even when
their school work is challenging. I’m a proud mama, that’s for sure!
Â
I also share this to illustrate for all of you - both new readers and veteran readers alike - that sleep coaching didn't "break" my boys. I know some of you have fears that sleep training will be bad for your babies, or that it will change their personalities. Believe me, I understand these fears! I had them all myself. However, now that my boys are 14 (next week,
yikes!) and 11 years old, I can tell you that I sleep trained them...and now, I have healthy, happy, intelligent, loving boys on my hands. Oh - and they also sleep pretty well, too! ;-)
Â
I hope reading through our weekly newsletter has helped you realize that you are not alone, and that there is hope, and a light at the end of the tunnel. Forward this to a friend, so they know they're not alone, either!
Until next week,
