Sleeping Child
- of the week -
"Oh. My. Goodness. I've been holding off on emailing back because I didn't want to jinx all of the good things happening over here!! Since Friday night: I have stuffed him full of
carbs, gone through the bedtime routine, stood in his room without touching or humming for ten minutes, then I say goodnight, I love you and I'm going to get water. I walk out of the room and stand at the end of the hallway. I don't go back. He doesn't cry or shout for me! He tosses and turns until he falls asleep. It's taking less and less time to fall asleep as the days pass. He has slept through the night since we started on Friday! I'm amazed. And he's teething!!! ...And my final hooray is
that he woke up this morning at 7:20!! What!? I didn't think this could happen, much less so quickly. Whew. Okay. Sorry for all of the exclamation points. I'm just super excited! I'm going to keep doing the same things and I'm hoping it keeps going so well. Whew. Thank you so much for your help, expertise and well put together plan. We are thrilled!"

Q: Hello, I don't know what else to do my 14 month old gets up a couple times a night some times I just lay him back and he will sleep and most times he wants me to pick him up to sleep!!! The cry it out method hasn't worked he can cry for hours. I don't know what else to try. He naps at least once during the day. Plz help lolÂ
Â
A: You are not alone with a toddler who won't sleep through the night! When we have newborns, we expect to get up at night, but not for 14 months! Toddlers often need a different approach than younger babies, which is why we have specific strategies for toddlers, especially when cry-it-out doesn't work. If you haven't already, I'd urge you to consider our
e-Book all about toddler sleep coaching here: https://www.babysleepsite.com/5-step-system-toddler/

15 Bedtime Books That Double As Great Sleep Coaching Tools
Â
Bedtime stories are a fantastic addition to any family's bedtime routine, and something that most children and parents really enjoy - but bedtime books as sleep coaching tools? That may be a new way to think of them!
But it's true - arm yourself with the right bedtime stories, and you can actually use them to reinforce your sleep coaching strategies and methods. Check out today's special post to see our top picks!
Bedtime for Babies vs. Bedtime for Toddlers
Â
If you've done much reading about baby and toddler sleep, then you know that bedtime is important. The bedtime routine, the timing of bedtime...it all matters! But which is better for your child: an early bedtime or a later bedtime? The answer
depends on your child's age....and it might surprise you.Â

Hello,
Â
As our family gets into the Christmas spirit, I am reminded that it used to be SO hard to take my son out shopping! I was jealous of the moms who could go out and the baby was content in the stroller and would fall asleep just about anywhere. My son, on the other hand, had such a short awake time, but he didn't sleep well "on the go." He was so sensitive
about his sleep that we didn't get sitters too often, either. Now that my boys are older, I still don't like to go shopping with them very much, honestly. LOL! Now, they are two active boys who find shopping oh so boring. In the past, my husband and I have gotten a sitter and had an "extended date" that included Christmas shopping, lunch or dinner out, and a movie. Much more fun with important bonding time with my spouse! If your days of shopping,
sitters, and getting out of the house are limited right now, know that you are NOT alone! Hang in there; it does get better!
Â
I hope reading through our weekly newsletter has helped you realize that you are not alone, and that there is hope, and a light at the end of the tunnel. Forward this to a friend, so they know they're not alone, either!
Until next week,
