From The Publisher
I think the internet is in a quiet period as we approach NAB. It's a short newsletter this week.

Be sure to check out the two-part breakdown of Avatar 2 in the Pushing Photons section. Both articles are in front of the paywall.

I'll see you next Sunday.

Happy Grading!

Sincerely,

Patrick Inhofer

The Craft
Featuring the work of creative craftsmen, the theory of color, and industry news. Learn practical workflows, useful theories, and actionable insights from existing (and emerging) leaders and teachers in our industry.

(video) This home video was created in 2003 to help a telecine colorist explain his job to his mom (which his siblings also created), "[My behind the scenes] was Law & Order film dailies at The Post Group in Hollywood. The facility is long gone, but now this small collection of raw footage we shot for that video stands as a bit of a memorial for our wonderful facility. Apologies for the focus mostly being on me, but that's what it was being shot for!" (via Marc Wielage)

(video) "I tried to find scenes where we can observe highlights, mid-tones, shadows and the skintone. Please watch in 4k. On my vimeo site you can download the video with less compression."

" 'Avatar: The Way of Water' swept the feature categories at the 21st Visual Effects Society Awards.."

"A class action was filed against Stability AI, Midjourney, and DeviantArt for DMCA violations, right of publicity violations, and unlawful competition. Artists must be compensated and protected. All details are below."
