And a special welcome to our new readers.
September was a really active month for us. Classes,
teleclasses, and a weekend intensive kept us pretty
busy. We also had the pleasure of participating in
Kim Wilborn's Spiritual Path of Tarot Telesummit.
It was a lot of fun, and we enjoyed getting to know
Kim. If you missed it, you can still grab one of the
upgrade packages with mp3s of all the sessions,

Now that October has arrived, our thoughts turn to harvest and celebration. Here in the Northern Hemisphere,
we begin to experience the mixing of dry hot winds of
summer and cool autumn breezes, as the two seasons
perform their dance of change. Seasonal changes have been given emotional characteristics
for a very long time. Emotional metaphors are expressed by
the various images on the cards, and understanding these
emotions is integral to any reading. This issue's tip
features an exercise that will help you recognize those
emotions in the cards.
In the spirit of gathering and abundance, this issue's
showcase card is the 3 of Cups. And in the Best Practices
column, you'll learn how to link social strategies to
business growth. And one more thing... Yours truly on the tarot path,
Ruth Ann, Wald & Gina Tarot Tips is here to help you with the practical side of your Tarot journey. In order to take the greatest
advantage of this newsletter, please send us your
questions regarding any aspect of your tarot study
or practice and we'll do our best to answer them
in an upcoming issue.

EXPLORING EMOTIONS WITH TAROT
Emotions are central in the way we adjust to daily
challenges. In addition to affecting the way we
treat each other, emotions also influence our
inner sense of personal welfare.
We learn to express emotions according to what
is socially acceptable and culturally normal.
American psychologist Paul Ekman, PhD., who
spent a great deal of time researching emotions,
concluded that emotions are revealed through our
facial expressions.
Ekman's research identified six universal
emotions: anger, fear, happiness, sadness, disgust
and surprise. He developed a widely-used
diagnostic tool called the Pictures of Facial
Affect, which is a set of images used to identify
emotional norms in cross-cultural studies.
When we interpret the significance of patterns in
a tarot reading, we can often relieve the angst
over situations that place us on an emotional
roller coaster. The challenge is to remain objective,
especially if we're reading for ourselves.
Recognizing the emotional climate expressed in
the cards can be a useful technique. Here's an
exercise to help you do that:
1) Take a sheet of letter-sized paper and
divide it horizontally by lines into six columns
and label each individual column with one the six
basic emotions. For example, the first column will
be anger, column two will be titled happiness, and
so forth.
2) As you go through your deck, list the card
in the column which seems to express the emotion
you sense for that card. For instance, the 3 of
Cups may seem to evoke joy, so you would place
it in the "happiness" column. The 7 of Swords may
suggest surprise, so list it under "surprise." Do this
for all the cards in your deck.
Try this for different decks that you own, and
compare your results. You'll find that your
emotional responses will vary from deck to deck.
Some cards, such as the Aces, depict inanimate
objects that do not show emotional expressions.
Place these in a category for the emotion they
evoke in you at the time you are doing this
exercise. If you observe an emotion that doesn't
seem to fit any of the basics, you can record them
in a separate "miscellaneous" category.
After you are done, consider which cards fit into
a majority of the basic emotions. Also, observe
which cards were the most difficult to categorize.
Happy Exploration! Tarot Card Showcase
In this section we will feature tidbits on a specific tarot card. While there are many systems and decks to choose from in
the world of tarot, here we use the Universal Waite Tarot
images and symbols.

Astrological Attribution: Mercury in Cancer
Qabalistic Attribution: Binah
(Understanding in the World of Creation)
Esoteric Title: Lord of Abundance Three lovely women gathered in a circle
within a vegetable patch, take a moment to
raise their chalices in a toast. They are perhaps
drawn together by participating in a ritual or
celebration. The number three signifies group energy or activity, and the
combining of parts. Three also symbolizes synthesis. The
three chalices represent The Supernal Triad: Kether (Crown),
Chochma (Wisdom) and Binah (Understanding). The women
themselves correspond to the elements of Air, Fire and
Water.
In the garden, there is an abundance of grapes, pumpkins and
gourds, which are often part of a large, celebratory harvest
feast. The word pumpkin originates from the Greek word
"pepon," and eventually came down to us as pumpkin, which
is a melon-like squash symbolizing abundance, fertility and
immortality.
In a reading, this card suggests a time of celebration,
festivals or parties. The 3 of Cups also indicates
sorority/fraternal groups, or acceptance into a family or
professional group. satisfaction, plenty, affluence, prosperity, bounty, merriment
and cordiality; warm reception, support.
Negative Keywords: Inconsistency, disagreements, strife, quarrels, separation, ostracism, misplaced admiration, lack.
Tarot Affirmation: I attract soulful relationships where there is a sense of camaraderie that allows for healthy friendships. Best Practices for Professional Readers
DRIVING YOUR BUSINESS SOCIALLY
One of the most talked about ways of attracting clients is
promoting and marketing your services or business through
social media. The issue of making social media marketing
work for you is key to your success. However, many think of
this marketing strategy as an afterthought in developing
their business goals.
Marketing yourself through social media is not just about
tweeting your latest promotion or class. It is about
building your brand and establishing yourself and your
business as a viable resource that will meet the needs of
your potential clients.
One of social media's best uses is as a lead generation
tool. Setting goals and envisioning the outcome in terms of
what you want to accomplish in utilizing social media should
be your first step.
"Social proof" is a tried-and-true aspect of successful
promotion of your product. So if you have limited time, you
don't need to be a constant tweeter or blogger. Get others
talking about, tweeting or blogging about you or your
product.
Avoid using social media strictly to advertise. Remember
your brand should contain an element of your unique
personality. Potential customers want to "know" you. If they
feel a sense of connection, they are most likely to buy what
you are selling, and are more willing to recommend you to
others. Questions arise when developing or transitioning
to professional Tarot Reading status to earn income. These can range from "How can I make money with Tarot?" and "How do I get started?" to more complex technical and business questions.
