And a special welcome to our new subscribers.
March is here! Whether you’re about to celebrate the Spring or Autumn Equinox, this is a time of balanced energies. It’s a great time to use the tarot to help you balance your own energies. Christiana Gaudet wrote a wonderful exercise for finding balance in tarot and in life, which you may enjoy. You can read it here. It’s also a time of gentle transformation, which is a core theme of many reading consultations. The primary function of a reading is to provide various forms of information, and then, armed with the insight that information provides, it can become an instrument for transformation. This issue’s Tip is a simple 3-card spread designed as a tool for the journey of transformation. We also include a fabulous resource for all kinds of 3-card spreads! We’ll explore the magical use of talismans and amulets in The Diviner’s Corner column, and the Best Practices for Professional Readers column has another topic about branding –- taglines, headlines and hashtags. And one more thing...

3-CARD TRANSFORMATION SPREAD
Rome wasn’t built in a day. This much-used quote is a way of saying that intentional change takes time and is gradual. In today’s world of faster cars, faster phones and faster internet, it may seem that change has come out of nowhere but technology, too, has been developed over time. It may be a stretch to compare personal transformation to technology but the idea here is that all intentional change is about a desire to improve life. This spread helps with de-cluttering the path to powerful personal transformation. It can be suited to any time frame but remember it's about transformation over time rather than instant gratification. Position 1. This represents your known world or environment. In other words, you build an overview of the present. You must know where you are in order to learn how to get where you are trying to go. Position 2. This position represents any opposition, dissatisfactions or irritations about your known world that needs to change for a desired transformation to happen. Here you would ask the question of what/why there is a challenge and why it leads to consulting the tarot. Position 3. This card will reveal or lead to resolutions. This card provides insights about what a successful transformation will look like or what you’ll get out of going through the process. Whether this spread is used in a reading for oneself or for a querent, it is important for the seeker to believe in themselves and the inner work journey. Resource: Love 3-Card Spreads? We do! TALISMANS AND AMULETS Carrying or wearing objects that are meant to bring luck or protection goes back to the earliest need of human beings to have a connection to the Divine. Talismans have been as large as the Statue of Liberty and as small as a bead the size of a pea. While the terms talismans and amulets are often used interchangeably, an amulet is generally regarded as a “general purpose” good luck charm whereas a talisman draws the distinction of possessing specific magical powers, forces and benefits. Both talismans and amulets can be made into magical jewelry and have been utilized in written form placed on parchment or carved in bone, wood or metal. The uses of these items have ranged from warding off evil to bringing success in marriage, fertility or better business. These items are not typically used for divination purposes per se but have found their way into a collection of pieces and charms that have been used for these purposes. Religious and faith symbols are commonly used as amulets. Although it can be probably argued that such symbols are not being used for magical purposes, it does help the wearer achieve connection to the Divine, particularly when it has been blessed by a member of the appropriate clergy. Talismans are often found to have designs in which the creator is versed in planetary and/or magical forces. The designs can also include inscriptions from the maker’s preferred sacred text or a meaningful sonnet or quote, all relevant to the intention of the maker. Resources: • Talismans, Amulets and Tarot: A Powerful Combination A great article from Inner Goddess Tarot! • Creating Tarot Talismans An informative Llewellyn blog post by Melanie Marquis. • Tarot Talismans: Invoke the Angels of the Tarot In this classic book, Chic & Sandra Tabatha Cicero introduce how these powerful cards can be magically transformed into talismans and amulets. Best Practices for Professional Readers HEADLINES, TAGLINES AND HASHTAGS By Gina Thies www.tarotadvisor.com / www.facebook.com/tarotreaders www.tarotcoupling.com / www.oraclesoup.org Headlines, taglines and hashtags are all about getting noticed and becoming memorable. Are all these terms necessary to understand for your business? I’ll talk a little about them in case you’ve been hiding under a rock for the last decade and are not sure how this is relevant to building your brand. The simplest to explain, headlines aren’t new. A myriad of newspapers, books and most anything in the way of communication uses a headline. The headline is the thing to pay attention to, the top news, the breaking story, etc. Without a good headline, most news reporting would be non-existent. A headline says, read it, know it, it’s important. On the other side of this is the tagline which isn’t a breaking news story but is important as a catch phrase that describes in a very short sentence what a company or product means to the consumer. Many businesses are now questioning whether or not to use a tagline. When you think of brands like Apple, can you readily call to mind their tagline? (Pssst... it's "Think Different.") In our world today, it’s all about search terms and keywords, hence the dawn of the #hashtag. Hashtags are used to search for relevant information very quickly. You'll find them used all the time in social media posts. A hashtag is simply a keyword phrase, spelled out without spaces, with a pound sign (#) in front of it. For example, #TarotTips and #TarotLovers are both hashtags. You can put these hashtags anywhere in your social media posts: in the beginning, at the end, or anywhere in between. With so much advertising and information that we are exposed to, there is little time to read and/or process both headlines and taglines. Headlines take up space on our screens, and taglines now have a place as “branded hashtags” instead. Because of space limitations, images and pictures have often replaced text. So what do you need to know about these to make them useful for your business? It really depends on whether you want to be known for something exclusively or just found when searched. It means knowing your audience and your clientele, and it may teach you the importance of the first words you use in your message or content. Resource: Does Your Brand Need A Tagline?
