28th Anniversary Celebration

It's the beginning of February once again,
and once again we take a little time to
celebrate the anniversary of the birth of
The Tarot School. On February 1, 1995
our adventure began.

It is 28 years since that day, and like all
living things, The Tarot School has evolved.
From teaching the elementary basics of card
meanings and techniques through the world of
esoteric attributions and advanced concepts
to the present moment, we have never stopped
moving forward.

This 28th birthday is an exciting moment in
our history, because we have reached the
boundary of what satisfies us in the realm
of tradition. Starting now, today, we begin
an exploration of the unknown in tarot, and
we invite you to join us.

~ Wald

Tarot Tip
TIPS FOR NEW TAROT STUDENTS

The study of tarot brings excitement and
wonder, and anxiety in some cases,
especially for novice enthusiasts. Most
tarot readers start their journey by wading
through a lot of books, articles and nowadays,
TikTok or YouTube videos or other media.

If you are a new student, let’s take a look
at some of the challenges you may face,
along with some suggestions that may help.

1.  Understanding Symbolism and Meanings

In your quest to learn the meanings of the
cards, you may find the interpretations given
in tarot books to be vague, contradictory or
not applicable to a particular question.

There are as many interpretations for the
cards as there are people using them. And to
complicate matters, different decks sometimes
use non-traditional symbology or mythos.

Here are a few things you can do:

    •  Read material on numerology, astrology
or alchemy to widen your frame of reference
and deepen your understanding of the cards.

    •  Keep a journal of your readings and
reflections. This can be a valuable tool for
discovering new interpretations,  track your
progress and reflect on your readings, which
can lead to new insights.

    •  Meditate with the cards. This can be
a powerful tool for gaining deeper
understanding. Select a card and focus on
it, allowing any thoughts or feelings that
come to mind to surface.

    •  Attend workshops and classes taught by
experienced tarot readers. These can provide
you with valuable insights and perspectives,
as well as opportunities to practice and
receive feedback.

It's important to note that the tarot is a
personal tool, and the interpretation and
meaning of the cards can change over time as
your understanding and perspective shifts.
It's a good idea to approach tarot with an
open mind and be willing to explore new
interpretations and perspectives.

2.  Layout and Structure

It’s impressive to see an experienced reader
use a large spread. Advanced readers make
it look easy but it's probably part of their
standard repertoire of familiar spreads.
A suggestion for the novice is to start with
small spreads and expand them card-by-card
over time. You won’t do yourself any favors
by starting with a 10-card spread or layout
right away.

Here are some sources for spreads in
addition to the ones you'll find in books:

•  Online Resources:
There are many websites and blogs that
offer information and tutorials on different
tarot spreads. Do a search on "simple tarot
spreads" and you'll find all kinds of resources!

•  YouTube Tutorials:
Many tarot readers share their knowledge
and expertise on YouTube, including numerous
videos that demonstrate different spreads.

•  Tarot Apps:
Some tarot apps come with pre-designed
spreads, which can be a great resource for
novice readers to learn different spreads
and practice.

•  Tarot communities and forums:
Joining a tarot community or forum can
be a great way to connect with other readers,
ask for advice and tips, and learn about new
spreads.

3.  Being of Service

One of the most common reasons people are
drawn to tarot is the wish to help others.
This may manifest as the desire to be of
service, to heal, or to provide guidance.
However, many people who feel this impulse
may not know how to follow it.

Here are a couple of suggestions:

    •  Practice giving readings to friends and
family, and ask for feedback. This can help
you gain confidence in your abilities, and
also give you an opportunity to see how your
readings resonate with others.

    •  Learn to read the cards in a way that
aligns with your intentions and beliefs, and
use tarot as a tool for personal development
and self-understanding. This can help you
better understand yourself and your place in
the world. It can also help you direct your
desire to help others in a more meaningful
way.

It's important to remember that tarot is a
journey, not a destination. The more you
practice and build your understanding of
the cards, the more confident you'll become
in using them as a guidance tool. With a
solid foundation and a willingness to
continue learning, you'll be able to unlock
the full potential of tarot and use it to help
yourself and others.

Diviner's Corner
PLANNING RITUALS ACCORDING TO
THE DAYS OF THE WEEK

Days of the week

The idea of linking the days of the week
with planetary influences dates back to
ancient civilizations. In ancient Roman
culture, for example, each day of the week
was named after a celestial body and was
believed to be influenced by that body's
astrological properties. The Romans named
the days of the week after the Sun, the
Moon, and the five known planets in the
solar system at the time: Mars, Mercury,
Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn.

Each day of the week is associated with
certain traits or influences:

Monday, ruled by the Moon, is associated
with cycles, dreams, messages, and
intuition.

Tuesday, ruled by Mars, is associated with
bravery, battles, strife, and defeating
enemies.

Wednesday, ruled by Mercury, is associated
with power, wisdom, spiritual development,
communication, and studies.

Thursday, ruled by Jupiter, is associated
with wealth, expansion, luck, success, and
ambition.

Friday, ruled by Venus, is associated with
love, partnership, fertility, romance, and
beauty.

Saturday, ruled by Saturn, is associated
with psychic defense, protection, ritual,
and personal cleansing.

Sunday, ruled by the Sun, is associated with
gaining favor, success, making friends,
peace, and honor.

Performing certain rituals or activities on
specific days of the week can help to
harness the energy or influence of the
celestial body associated with that day, and
thus bring about desired results.

Here are some examples:

Monday (ruled by the Moon):

•  A dream journaling ritual, where you
write down your dreams upon waking and
reflect on their meanings

•  A meditation or visualization practice
focused on accessing your intuition or inner
wisdom

•  A candlelit bath or shower ritual, using
essential oils that are associated with the
Moon's energies (such as jasmine or lotus)
and setting intentions related to emotional
self-care or spiritual growth

Tuesday (ruled by Mars):

•  A physical activity or exercise routine,
focusing on building strength and courage

•  A ritual to release anger or aggression,
such as through journaling, chanting, or
hitting a pillow

•  A spell or ritual to protect yourself or
your home from negativity or harm

Wednesday (ruled by Mercury):

•  A ritual to improve communication, such
as through prayer or the use of
communication-related herbs or crystals

•  A study or learning session, where you
set intentions related to gaining knowledge
or wisdom

•  A ritual to connect with your higher self
or spirit guides, such as through meditation
or divination practices

Thursday (ruled by Jupiter):

•  A ritual to attract abundance or
prosperity, such as through the use of
money-drawing herbs or the creation of a
vision board

•  A goal-setting or manifesting ritual,
where you focus on your aspirations and the
actions you need to take to achieve them

•  A gratitude practice, where you focus on
all the blessings and abundance in your life

Friday (ruled by Venus):

•  A self-care or beauty ritual, such as a
spa day or a makeover

•  A love spell or ritual, focused on
attracting or enhancing romantic
relationships

•  A friendship-building or socializing
ritual, such as a dinner party or game night
with loved ones

Saturday (ruled by Saturn):

•  A psychic protection or cleansing ritual,
such as a smudging ceremony or the use of
protective herbs or crystals

•  A ritual to release negativity or
emotional baggage, such as through
journaling or visualization

•  A personal organization or decluttering
ritual, focused on creating a sense of order
and clarity in your space

Sunday (ruled by the Sun):

•  A ritual to honor or connect with your
personal sense of purpose or higher power

•  A ritual to celebrate and give thanks for
the blessings in your life

•  A ritual to promote feelings of joy,
positivity, and vitality, such as through
dance, music, or creativity.

Whether you choose to follow a specific set
of rituals based on the day of the week or
simply find inspiration from these
associations, incorporating intention and
mindfulness into your daily routine can be a
powerful way to connect with your inner self
and the world around you.

Meet The Reader
GINA JEAN

By Sharonah Rapseik, Ph.D., CMAP

Gina Jean

Gina Jean is a professional Tarot reader
based in NYC. She has been reading cards for
over 15 years. Her gift is passed down from
her grandmother from Haiti. She is an
empath, clairvoyant, intuitive, and medium
who uses the Tarot as her tool. A graduate
of The Tarot School in NY, Gina has studied
many different facets of using the Tarot
cards including the study of Kabbalah by
her mentors.

Her journey began with her being baptized in
the Rosicrucian Order. At a very young age,
she was studying meditation and the aura of
a candle. Born and raised in New York, this
Haitian-American knew early on that her
experiences with the Lwa (spirits in Haitian
culture) and her ancestors were very visible
and she could communicate with them. Many
of her readings are guided by her spirit guides
and help to provide clarity in life's difficult
decisions.

Gina Jean reads for clients all over the
world including Paris and London, UK and
speaks French fluently. She currently reads
in New York City part time at the world-famous
Employees Only NYC, and Raoul's Restaurant,
as well as being a staple in the fashion industry.
Her innate gift as an intuitive counselor has
given her celebrity status with clients such as
Refinery 29, Louis Vuitton, American Express
and Teen Vogue.

Sharonah Rapseik:
Gina, what makes your tarot practice
unique and how do you express it?

Gina Jean:
What makes my Tarot practice unique is
that I don't tell the future. I believe my
clients are the masters of their own destiny.

I also use crystals for energy healing during
the reading, depending on which stone stands
out in the reading. It helps for the client to
physically hear the message but also to clear
or balance whatever energies are stuck or
not open. I source my crystals for healing
from the Tucson Gem Show every year, and
different exotic locations in the world.

Thank you Gina, it’s been a pleasure to meet you!

Best Practices for Professional Readers
PLANNING FOR THE UNFORESEEN

By Gina Thies

All sorts of unforeseen and unfortunate
events, from Covid to natural and man-made
disasters, have an impact on small businesses.
Your business may be affected by things you
couldn't foresee such as a storm, a cyber-attack
or even a break-up.

There may be things you never considered
having to protect that are part of your
business assets. These include, books,
decks, ritual supplies, client information,
etc. The first step in planning for an
emergency or set-back to your business is to
look at potential loss and risk. Think about
potential losses and the impact it would
have on business continuity.

For instance, if your office is in a
basement, the area may be susceptible to
flooding. Are you at risk for having your
computer and other equipment ruined and
possibly losing access to your day-to-day
business essentials?

Take time to identify potential or real
risk. Then make a list of priorities such as
personal safety and safety of clients.  You
also may also want to invest in a fire or
water-proof safe or envelope to store
important paper documents and an offsite
storage server for your essential business
data, client information and financial
records.

Consider what you would need to continue
your business should it be brought to a halt
because of unforeseen circumstances.
Typically, you would want to have a few
days’ worth of basic supplies. Planning
ahead is key.

preparedness, check out FEMA’s Ready
business program which provides a number of
toolkits to assist in your planning at
