Our Premiers came in 7th in the competition. Some very good rugby with a lot of young men playing their first games at this level. The most Premier players I can recall being called up for Lions duties.
I was honoured once again in my VP role to be asked to present the Ed Chaney Cup and winner medals to our boys at the completion of their final. Although with seconds to go it looked like I
may be presenting to Poneke, but our boys play 80 minute rugby.
Our Colts looked to be on target to win the John Kelly Trophy, but for
a bit of a mistake in personnel. Prior to this, our Colts were 4th on the table. A very good season.
Our Reserve Team had a very good
season, culminating with winning the Allan Seerup Trophy. Another good finish with Saga at the helm again.
The Presidents continue to
do what they do best, support the Club and have fun.
Overall I believe our Club, both Senior and Junior, is very strong both
financially and people-wise. An immense thanks to our volunteers – committee, coaches, managers, helpers and of course the players. I attended the Junior Club prizegiving with the Ranfurly Shield this year and was very impressed with the turnout. Excellent evening, well run. If you have wondered where some of our players of yesteryear have got to, then drop down to junior rugby. Giving back is what this Club and game is about.
