Another Rugby weekend with all sorts of Games, both Club and International – not to
mention a full weekend of Supercars.
At last we had our Colts at The Fortress as the Curtain-Raiser to our Premiers. The Match was a tight one with OBU always the Team to beat in this Grade. We may have lost, but the gain for me is that to see so much talent at this age really augurs well for the future of our wonderful Game. Our Coaches and Managers have to be commended for a pretty good Season considering the up and down nature of Colts Rugby. I believe
that once again we have the right Guys with a sincere dedication to the Players and the Club. Well done Colts.
While watching the Colts, a number of us were upstairs also watching our Premier 2’s in Upper Hutt on YouTube. I know what you are thinking – “Guys doing two things at once!!” Well okay, there were a few glitches, but very minor. Upper Hutt never lie down, and so it was that when our Boys got to 14-0, the Rams seemed to wake up and went to half time at 21-14. The second half was where it counted with yet another
win.
The Premiers came out fired up and, I felt, just a mite concerned to turn the tables of an
earlier clash. Our defensive work was absolutely on the mark all day. At our Committee
Meeting this week, a couple of Members singled out a few Players for mention, but by the
time discussion had finished I think all the Players and the Bench had been mentioned in a
very positive sense. Petone were scoreless until near the end – a good “return of service” by
our Boys.
Our Reserve side travelled out to Poneke and clearly put up a battle, but were beaten in the
end. This is a Team that Saga and Siliva have Coached together with a good bunch of Boys
enjoying their Rugby.
The Prezzies had a mixed bag this Season. First to go when Covid broke out, lost Prezzies
Day, but Fonzie kept the Boys together.
The AB’s vs Fiji was a Game we were all waiting to see. The Fijians took it to the AB’s and
although they did not win, they were always in the Game. By this weekend, they will have
had over a week out of MIQ and who knows what that will bring. Another good game I
would think.
Australis vs France is now on a knife edge. The Wallabies took the first Test 23-21 and at the weekend the Frogs took the Test 28-26. The deciding Test is after the AB’s vs Fiji this Saturday.
One wonders if the British & Irish Lions will get a Test against South Africa. Some real Covid problems over there.
