Another piece of Winter gone with some very good Rugby – well except for the farcical AB game up north.
First stop was at Jerry Collins Stadium to watch our unbeaten Premier 2’s take on top of the Table, Norths Blue – Tawa still unbeaten!! This was one hell of a game with both Teams taking it to the limit. A lot of skill from both sides. I would suggest that both Teams have not got over the bruising, but fair, encounter yet. My Player for the day was Jabeez, who had a couple of difficult weeks, but played his heart out. Well done to the Team
for their support for their fellow man. The Boys are in Upper Hutt this weekend.
The Premiers were out at Nairnville with one huge crowd of both Team’s Supporters. The Sun was shining and the breeze was a lot less than usual. OBU had to get 5 points to win the Swindale Shield. Our Boys were never going to lie down and make it easy. Half time there was only a point in it. The WRFU President, Kerry Walsh was apparently cruising around the Basin Reserve wondering which way to go for the presentation. 10 minutes from the
end, Kerry was at the correct field. It was a pleasure to present the Shield to Fui, the OBU Captain and great stalwart for OBU.
Tawa Colts cleaned out Ories Colts with a rather high score. This week the Colts are at home with a Playoff game against OBU as a Curtain Raiser to the Premiers at The Fortress. Game starts a little earlier at 1230hrs.
Our Reserve side won a tough game against Upper Hutt Pirates by one point. Our Boys sit second in the 2nd Div for the John Davies Cup.
The Maori All Blacks game against Samoa was another hard fought battle. These Pacific games should be more often versus the Maori All Blacks. A great spiritual spectacle with both sides passionately portraying their Haka’s.
